Ruled out for Week 3 The Bears have ruled out Dalton (knee) for Sunday's game at Cleveland, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.

Impact In the aftermath of the Bears' Week 2 win against the Bengals, Dalton was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee, which will result in at least one game missed. Head coach Matt Nagy has reiterated all along that Dalton will resume starting once he's healthy enough to do so, with his next chance coming Oct. 3 versus the Lions. With Dalton sidelined this weekend, though, rookie Justin Fields will get his first career start, while Nick Foles serves as the backup quarterback.

Impact Though the Bears haven't officially ruled Dalton out for Week 3 and head coach Matt Nagy said Monday that the veteran would remain the team's top quarterback when healthy, rookie first-round pick Justin Fields looks to be trending toward the starting nod Sunday. An MRI has cleared Dalton of any structural damage to the left knee he injured in the Week 2 win over the Bengals, but he's still tending to a painful bone bruise that could make a full recovery on a seven-day turnaround difficult. Given that Dalton joined the Bears on a one-year deal this offseason with the plan of having him serve as a bridge option to Fields, it's possible that Dalton loses hold of the starting job for good if the youngster acquits himself well against a tough Cleveland squad.
