Impact One day removed from opening Week 13 prep with a cap on his practice reps, Gibson was held out entirely Thursday, giving him just one more chance to mix into drills before the Commanders potentially make a ruling on his availability for Sunday's game at the Giants. During a Week 12 win against the Falcons, he experienced his lowest touch count (12) since Week 6 and was a distant second to rookie Brian Robinson (20) in his own backfield. If he's able to gut out his foot injury this weekend, Gibson again may play second fiddle to Robinson.

Impact The foot issue may have been a factor in Gibson garnering fewer touches (12) than Brian Robinson (22) in Sunday's 19-13 win over Atlanta, after the reverse had been true the week before, when Gibson took 21 touches to Robinson's 15 in a win over Houston. It's also possible the foot injury had nothing to do with it and the Commanders simply stuck with Robinson after he got off to a strong start in the first half. Whatever the case, Gibson's ability to practice in any capacity at the beginning of the week suggests he's more likely than not to play this Sunday in a matchup between NFC East wild-card contenders.

Impact Brian Robinson led the Washington backfield with 22 touches, well out-pacing Gibson. Gibson did make some notable contributions to the game, highlighted by a 14-yard reception in the middle of the second quarter to put the Commanders into field-goal position. He similarly ripped off a 10-yard run early in the fourth quarter to set up another field goal that ultimately put Washington up by six. Game script and weather likely had a lot to do with Gibson's decline in usage, though it's clear that he remains in a timeshare with Robinson for work out of the team's backfield.

Impact Brian Robinson saw 15 carries for 57 yards himself, as both Washington backs saw big workloads following a pick-six by Washington corner Kendall Fuller on Houston's opening drive. It's not clear whether Gibson saw more carries than Robinson in acknowledgment of their respective levels of effectiveness -- an area where Gibson would have the recent advantage -- or if it was a more random outcome of the game's flow. The Washington run blocking has been poor all year but there should be opportunities for the backfield to keep producing against Atlanta in Week 12.

Another run-heavy Commanders game plan is likely in Week 11 against Houston's porous run defense.
