Giants practice disrupted by a string of fights

With the New York Giants ramping up practices in the middle of a heat advisory days before their first preseason game, it was only a matter of time before tempers flared

Participating in full Martinez (knee) was an active participant during the Giants' 11-on-11 sessions Thursday's fully-padded practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Impact Martinez wore a red non-contact jersey during New York's voluntary OTAs in May, but he appears to be back in full after suffering a season-ending torn ACL in late September 2021. Big Blue seems to be taking his return slowly, however, as the seventh-year linebacker did split snaps with rookie Darrian Beavers throughout Thursday's 11-on-11 sessions. Martinez collected a team-leading 151 tackles during his first season with the Giants in 2020, and he should step back into a starting role under the team's new defensive coordinator Don Martindale.

Dodges PUP list Martinez (knee) was not on the list of players added to the Giants' PUP list Tuesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Impact He was reportedly moving well at practice all the way back in May, so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Martinez has now almost totally put behind him the ACL tear he suffered in Week 3 of 2021. Expect him to be ready to go by Week 1 in Tennessee, and expect him to again be a high-quality option at IDP as he strives to record at least 140 tackles for the fifth time in his career.

Moving well in practice Martinez (knee) has been moving well in OTAs this week, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact Martinez has been wearing a red non-contact jersey in practice and hasn't been at full speed, but Leonard reports that the linebacker is fully participating in team activities. Martinez sustained a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2021 season but is hopeful that he'll be ready for game action by August.

On track for August return Martinez (knee) is hopeful to be back by August, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Martinez tore his ACL in a Week 3 game against Atlanta, and an August return would put him around 10 months into his recovery. When healthy, he's served as a key piece in the middle of the Giants defense, topping 140 tackles in each of the four campaigns prior to 2021. Martinez should return to a prominent role in 2022 if he proves fully healthy.
