Cleared to start Sunday Head coach Frank Reich confirmed Wentz (illness) has cleared the NFL's COVID-19 return-to-play protocols and is slated to start Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Impact Wentz was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, but he still needed to gain medical clearance to be available Sunday. He's been able to do just that, and despite having not practiced all week, Wentz was able to stay prepared to start while in isolation and shouldn't face any limitations Week 17. Sam Ehlinger is set to serve as Wentz's backup.

Impact Though Wentz was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday when first eligible following a five-day isolation period, the quarterback hadn't fully cleared all of the NFL's COVID-19 return-to-play protocols. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wentz still required a check early Sunday to ensure he wasn't dealing with any lingering symptoms of the virus, and the quarterback was able to pass the final test. Though he didn't take part in any of the Colts' three official practices this week while on the list, Wentz was able to stay up to speed with the game plan while in isolation and shouldn't face any restrictions Sunday. Sam Ehlinger will serve as his backup after taking reps with the first-team offense Wednesday through Friday.

Impact Wentz is now officially back on the active roster after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, though that doesn't necessary mean he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Raiders. The 29-year-old still needs to fully clear the COVID-19 protocols in order to play, and if he does so Sunday morning he'll be able to suit up. Rookie sixth-round pick Sam Ehlinger is poised to make his first NFL start should Wentz be unable to clear the protocols. However, the expectation is Wentz will be cleared to take the field for Indianapolis, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
