It shouldn't matter in terms of Week 1 availability, with all signs suggesting the Colts expect Wentz to start against the Seahawks -- a sentiment the QB echoed after Thursday's practice, per George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin. Fellow QB Sam Ehlinger (knee) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, leaving Wentz and Jacob Eason as the only signal-callers on Indy's 53-man roster. Wentz is approaching the front end of his recovery timeline (5-12 weeks) after Aug. 2 foot surgery, seemingly headed for a best-case scenario, albeit with risk of re-injury.

Impact Wentz, WR Zach Pascal and C Ryan Kelly have been removed from the list in time for Thursday's practice. Wentz had been scheduled for a full practice Monday before he was deemed a close contact of a team employee who tested positive for COVID-19. The quarterback thus seems likely to be a full practice participant Thursday, with the Colts preparing to start him Sept. 12 against Seattle -- six weeks removed from foot surgery. Jacob Eason is the backup plan if Wentz can't go, while Sam Ehlinger is likely out until October with a knee sprain.
