Set to kick for Jacksonville The Jaguars signed McLaughlin off the Vikings' practice squad Tuesday.

Impact McLaughlin won't immediately count against Jacksonville's 53-man roster while he completes COVID-19 testing and screening protocols upon joining a new organization, but the Jaguars expected to have him available to serve as their kicker Sunday in Green Bay. With Jacksonville recently shutting top kicker Josh Lambo (hip) down for the season, McLaughlin is likely to kick for the team for at least two games before potentially ceding his role to practice-squad member Aldrick Rosas (suspension), who will be eligible to rejoin the roster Week 12. McLaughlin saw action with the Colts, Chargers and 49ers in 2019, converting 18 of 23 field-goal attempts and all 26 of his extra-point tries.

Slight setback in kicking battle Rodrigo Blankenship outperformed McLaughlin in Saturday's scrimmage, making six of seven field goals, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Impact Blankenship made kicks of 33, 37, 41, 52, 56 and 57 yards and missed from 48. McLaughlin made four of seven kicks, converting from 33, 37, 41 and 57 yards and missing from 48, 52 and 56 yards. McLaughlin had performed better than Blankenship in the first scrimmage, so the battle for the placekicking job remains close. However, McLaughlin is still the favorite as a veteran since he made five of six field-goal attempts and all 11 PATs in his stint with the Colts last season.

Lead in kicking job battle McLaughlin is 8-for-8 in field goal attempts in Monday's scrimmage at Lucas Oil Stadium and appears to have a lead over rookie Rodrigo Blankenship, The Athletic reports.

Impact Blankenship was 5-of-8 in field goal attempts with misses from 39, 44 and 53 yards. McLaughlin as a veteran looks likely to win the job, but the team may not announce the starting placekicker until shortly before Week 1.

Impact McLaughlin is competing with rookie Rodrigo Blankenship to replace future Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri ahead of the upcoming campaign. Despite being pitted against Blankenship, who joins the Colts after a prolific college career at Georgia, McLaughlin has helped mentor the undrafted kicker early in camp. According to coach Frank Reich, both players have fared well while being tested in a variety of ways thus far, so it'll be worthwhile to monitor whether one kicker gains a leg up in the coming weeks.
