Not threatened by Hyde signing The Seahawks still intend for Carson (hip) to be one of their primary offensive weapons, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact The team drafted DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round and signed Carlos Hyde (shoulder) to a one-year contract, providing some backfield depth behind Carson and Rashaad Penny (knee). Carson and Hyde are expected to finish rehabbing their respective injuries this summer, while Penny appears in danger of starting the regular season on the PUP list. A healthy Carson won't automatically match last year's averages of 18.5 carries and 3.1 targets per game, but it's at least within his range of possibilities. The Seahawks had initially hoped to sign Devonta Freeman, whose insistence on a larger contract inspired an audible to Hyde. A tough competition for backup work seems more likely than Hyde, Dallas, Penny or Travis Homer mounting a serious challenge for Carson's lead role. GM John Schneider mentioned Carson a few weeks ago, noting that the running back's recovery from a December hip fracture is going well, putting him on track to be ready for the start of the season.
