Chiefs' Pacheco set to return from injury for Thanksgiving game against Cowboys

The Kansas City Chiefs could have Isiah Pacheco back in the lineup for their Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys
NOVEMBER 25 • Associated Press
Reverts to practice squad Edwards-Helaire reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Impact Edwards-Helaire was elevated to the active roster to operate as a third option at running back behind Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win against the Colts. Edwards-Helaire logged 17 snaps on offense, compiling eight yards on five carries while catching both of his targets for nine yards. He finished third at his position in offensive snaps behind Hunt (68) and Smith (18), while Isiah Pacheco (knee) and Elijah Mitchell (coach's decision) were unavailable. Pacheco was estimated to be a full participant at the team's walkthrough Monday, so he may be set to make his return to action following a three-game absence. If Pacheco can't go Thursday against the Cowboys, there's a good chance that Edwards-Helaire would garner another elevation in Week 13.
NOVEMBER 25 • ROTOWIRE
Elevated to active roster The Chiefs elevated Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Nick Jacobs reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire will offer added depth to the running back position, as starter Isiah Pacheco (knee) is out for Week 12 against the Colts. The former first-round pick will likely be active behind Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchell and Brashard Smith.

Broncos face biggest test yet against the desperate Chiefs as KC tries to get back in AFC West race

The Denver Broncos have started strong with an 8-2 record, thanks to a relentless pass rush
NOVEMBER 13 • Associated Press
Placed back on practice squad The Chiefs reverted Edwards-Helaire to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Edwards-Helaire saw his first action of the season Sunday against Buffalo and logged two offensive snaps, carrying twice for five yards in the second quarter. That made him a distant third in Kansas City's running back pecking order behind Kareem Hunt (47 offensive snaps) and Brashard Smith (12). The team's No. 1 tailback, Isiah Pacheco (knee), was unable to suit up Sunday, and with Pacheco expected to return in Week 11 following the team's Week 10 bye, Edwards-Helaire may have to wait a while before being elevated again.
NOVEMBER 4 • ROTOWIRE
Joins active roster The Chiefs elevated Edwards-Helaire to their active roster Saturday.
Impact The 2020 first-round pick from LSU provides Kansas City with needed depth at running back, as Isiah Pacheco (knee) will be sidelined in the Week 9 matchup against the Bills. Now with the active roster, Edwards-Helaire is likely to play a depth role in the Chiefs' backfield Sunday.
NOVEMBER 1 • ROTOWIRE
Practice squad reunion with Chiefs Kansas City signed Edwards-Helaire to the practice squad Wednesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire spent the offseason competing for a depth role with New Orleans, where he suited up for two regular-season games in 2024, but after being cut Tuesday he now rejoins the team that selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He'll provide backfield depth for Kansas City.
AUGUST 27 • ROTOWIRE
Released by New Orleans The Saints released Edwards-Helaire on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire played just 33 offensive snaps during the preseason and managed to rush 10 times for just 22 yards. He also caught all three of his targets for 25 yards. It wasn't nearly enough to win a job behind Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller and rookie Devin Neal.

Sees action in second half Sunday Edwards-Helaire logged four carries for six yards and caught his lone target for nine yards during Sunday's 27-13 preseason loss to the Chargers.
Impact Edwards-Helaire logged all four of his carries in the third quarter. He didn't get a chance to tote the rock until after Kendre Miller, Velus Jones and Cam Akers all logged rushing attempts in the first half. New Orleans was also without sixth-round rookie Devin Neal (hamstring) on Sunday. Once Neal is healthy, Edwards-Helaire will likely be left on the outside looking in at the depth chart. His next chance to play this preseason will come Sunday, Aug. 17 against Jacksonville.

FEBRUARY 14 • SI.COM
Staying in New Orleans Edwards-Helaire signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire started the 2024 season on the Chiefs' reserve/non-football illness list. He was activated from the NFI list Oct. 15 but was a healthy scratch for the next nine games and was ultimately waived by Kansas City in mid-December. He signed with the Saints' practice squad two days later and was elevated for the final two games of the regular season, during which he logged 13 carries for 46 yards while adding three catches (on five targets) for 24 yards. By signing a future contract, Edwards-Helaire will be on the Saints' 90-man roster for the start of the new league year March 12. He'll be able to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp and will look to earn a spot on New Orleans' 53-man roster for the 2025 season.
FEBRUARY 13 • ROTOWIRE
Goes back to practice squad The Saints reverted Edwards-Helaire to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Edwards-Helaire was elevated for Sunday's Week 18 game against Tampa Bay and led New Orleans running backs with 26 yards on eight carries while adding one reception for 14 yards. With both Alvin Kamara (groin) and Kendre Miller (concussion) out of action, Edwards-Helaire finished third in offensive snaps (18) among the Saints' tailbacks, though he didn't trail Jamaal Williams (24) or Jordan Mims (24) by much. After joining New Orleans on a practice-squad deal in mid-December, Edwards-Helaire played in two contests, totaling 46 yards on 13 rushes and 24 yards on three receptions.
JANUARY 7 • ROTOWIRE
Paces ground attack in loss Edwards-Helaire rushed eight times for 26 yards and brought in his only target for 14 yards in the Saints' 27-19 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Impact Edwards-Helaire served as the de facto No. 1 back as expected with both Alvin Kamara (groin) and Kendre Miller (concussion) sidelined, and he produced a team-high rushing yardage total. The veteran back will be an unrestricted free agent come the new league year, and Edwards-Helaire shouldn't have too much trouble garnering some interest on the open market given his status as a one-time first-round pick and the fact he's just 25 years old.
JANUARY 6 • ROTOWIRE
Up from practice squad The Saints elevated Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday in advance of Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
Impact With Kendre Miller (concussion) out and Alvin Kamara (groin) doubtful for Week 18 action, Edwards-Helaire will be among the RB options for the Saints on Sunday along with Jamaal Williams and Jordan Mims. In Week 17 against the Raiders, Kamara also was sidelined, Miller sustained his head injury, and Mims was a healthy scratch, which left Edwards-Helaire (26 of 60 snaps) and Williams (25 of 60) to split work. Having said that, Edwards turned his seven touches into 30 yards from scrimmage, while Williams managed 24 total yards on three touches.
JANUARY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Will be active Week 18 Interim coach Darren Rizzi said Friday that Edwards-Helaire will be active Sunday against the Buccaneers, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire will officially be elevated from the practice squad prior to Sunday's regular-season finale. He led all Saints running backs with five rushing attempts in the Week 17 loss to the Raiders, and Edwards-Helaire could work ahead of Jamaal Williams and Jordan Mims in a backfield that will definitely be without Kendre Miller (concussion) and is unlikely to feature Alvin Kamara (groin), who is listed as doubtful.
JANUARY 3 • ROTOWIRE
Heads back to practice squad Edwards-Helaire reverted to the Saints' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact With Alvin Kamara (groin) sidelined for a second straight game Sunday against the Raiders, Kendre Miller got the start, but Edwards-Helaire received the first touch among Saints running backs. Miller's exit in the second quarter due to a concussion allowed Edwards-Helaire to earn the most snaps (26) and touches (seven for 30 yards from scrimmage) in the position group, while Jamaal Williams played 25 snaps and handled three touches (for 24 total yards), and Miller was contained to eight plays and four touches (for 19 total yards). It's unknown if Kamara or Miller will gain clearance to suit up Week 18 at Tampa Bay, so Edwards-Helaire and Williams may be lined up to split the backfield reps in that contest.
DECEMBER 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Seven touches in Saints debut Edwards-Helaire carried the ball five times for 20 yards and caught two of four targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 25-10 loss to the Raiders.
Impact Claimed off waivers from Kansas City less than two weeks ago, Edwards-Helaire saw more action than expected Sunday in his New Orleans debut after Kendre Miller was forced from the game due to a potential concussion. With Alvin Kamara (groin) also sidelined also sidelined and the Saints focused on 2025, Edwards-Helaire -- who starred for LSU in college -- could find himself leading the backfield in Week 18 against the Buccaneers.

Available for debut with new team Edwards-Helaire is listed as active Sunday versus the Raiders, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact Edwards-Helaire joined the Saints' practice squad on Dec. 18, and after a week and a half in the program, he'll be available for his debut with his new organization after the team elevated him from the practice squad Saturday. With Alvin Kamara (groin) sidelined again and Jordan Mims a healthy scratch, Kendre Miller, Jamaal Williams and Edwards-Helaire will be the backfield options for New Orleans in Week 17.
DECEMBER 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Elevated to active roster The Saints promoted Edwards-Helaire to the active roster Saturday.
Impact With Alvin Kamara (groin) still sidelined, Edwards-Halaire will join a plethora of available backs for New Orleans including Kendre Miller, Jamaal Williams and Jordan Mims. This will be Edwards-Helaire's first time suiting up on a 53-man roster this season.
