Impact Leonard has been rehabbing his ankle after undergoing surgery in the offseason, missing OTAs and the Colts' mandatory minicamp. Head coach Frank Reich said Tuesday that he won't need a second ankle operation, but he will unfortunately have to have a procedure on his back. The surgery will cause him to be out for the foreseeable future and he'll likely miss a chunk of training camp.

Impact Leonard had ankle surgery ahead of the 2021 campaign, but the ankle still bothered him for the majority of the season. It wasn't apparent that Leonard was playing hurt based on his production, however, as the linebacker finished with 122 tackles, eight pass deflections, four interceptions, eight forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 16 games. The 2018 second-round pick signed a five-year extension with the Colts in August, so the lingering ankle issues could still be a bit of a concern for the team over the long term. Regardless, Leonard proved last year that he can still be productive even when he's limited.
