Impact Goff is inactive after failing to practice in any capacity this week, allowing Boyle to take all the first-team reps in workouts Wednesday though Friday in preparation for the starting assignment. Not only will Boyle be making his first career start Sunday, but he'll also be making his Lions debut, as he had been on injured reserve since early September following thumb surgery before he was activated Friday. Though Boyle impressed enough in training camp to secure the No. 2 job behind Goff, he completed just 56.4 percent of his passes for a lowly 3.5 yards per attempt in the preseason. With that in mind, Boyle may need a respectable showing against the Browns to hold off backup David Blough for the starting nod next Thursday, in the event that Goff misses a second straight contest. According to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, Goff was spotted Sunday doing some throwing during the Lions' warmups, so he'll still have a shot at playing Week 12 if he can demonstrate enough progress in his recovery from the oblique injury in the next few days.

Impact In the wake of Austin Seibert (hip) hitting injured reserve ahead of Week 10 action, Ryan Santoso was elevated from the practice squad and served as the Lions' placekicker during last Sunday's 16-16 tie in Pittsburgh. Santoso ended up making one of two field-goal attempts and one of two point-after tries. While Santoso reverted to the practice squad Monday, Detroit signed Riley Patterson to the active roster Tuesday, setting up a scenario in which the team used a third kicker this season. Rather than going with Patterson -- who is inactive for the contest -- the Lions will turn to the more battled-tested Rosas, who previously went 13-for-13 on extra-point attempts but just 1-for-4 on field-goal tries while kicking for the Saints in the first four games of the season.

D'Andre Swift will continue to operate as Detroit's lead runner, but with Jermar Jefferson (ankle) sidelined, Godwin Igwebuike is the only other reserve running back on the active roster. Prior to his absence, Williams averaged 12.4 touches for 58.7 yards from scrimmage per game and scored two rushing TDs.

Impact It's no surprise Goff eventually required some time on the sideline after incurring 26 sacks (tied for fifth most with Baker Mayfield) through his first nine starts with the Lions. Goff didn't practice at all before being considered doubtful for Week 11 action and ultimately missing his first game of the season. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there's a chance Goff logs another DNP on Thursday against the Bears due to the short week, but his practice reps still will be something to watch to make sure that comes to pass. Tim Boyle will be under center for the Lions on Sunday and potentially beyond, with David Blough serving in a backup capacity.
