Finds end zone again Singletary carried the ball twice for 21 yards and a touchdown and added one reception for five yards in Saturday's preseason game against Chicago.

Impact Singletary got all of his work on the team's first two drives and was particularly effective on the ground. He took his first carry for seven yards and then ripped of a 14-yard rush to the end zone to cap the team's first drive. Singletary has scored a touchdown in each the Bills' first two preseason games, which is notable given that he's scored only four touchdowns on the ground between his first two seasons in the league combined. Also notable was that Singletary clearly worked ahead of Zack Moss, though Moss may not yet be fully up to speed after undergoing ankle surgery in the offseason and battling a hamstring injury during training camp.

Effective as starter Singletary rushed eight times for 42 yards and caught a six-yard touchdown on his only target in Friday's 16-15 preseason win over the Lions.

Impact Singletary got the starting nod with Zack Moss (hamstring) sidelined, but the two are likely to work in a backfield platoon when both are healthy. Singletary was undeterred after having a 15-yard gain erased by a holding call on Buffalo's first offensive play, racking up 21 yards on his next two carries. Third-stringer Matt Breida also mixed in during the second quarter after Singletary had the backfield to himself in the first, but Singletary still provided the second quarter's biggest offensive play, hauling in a six-yard touchdown pass from Davis Webb. Singletary will likely see a similar workload in Week 2 of preseason against the Bears.

Impact It would have been a bit of a shock if Zack Moss (hamstring) was listed ahead of Singletary, given that the latter has more experience and is healthier. But this is a good reminder that Singletary has had some positive vibes this summer, while Moss continues to struggle on the health front. Of course, Singletary simply doesn't have the size or speed in hitting the hole to be much of a goal-line factor in any scenario, so the best fantasy hope for him is if he earns as large a share of the carries as possible while maintaining a role in the passing game.

Impact The third-year back has had his ups and downs during his first two seasons, and if there's one knock on Singletary it's that he's lacked an extra burst once breaking through the line of scrimmage. It appears he's committed to changing that, though it's also worth noting that his competition for carries, Zack Moss, seems to be quickly moving his offseason ankle surgery. We'll add a final reminder that quarterback Josh Allen has a nose for scoring rushing touchdowns, with 25 of them in his three NFL seasons compared to Singletary's four in his two years. Singletary can be considered the No. 1 right now and it seems like he's well ahead of Moss in terms of game shape, but there's plenty more to come that will shape what the backfield distribution looks like come Week 1.

Impact Singletary is reportedly in fantastic shape following an offseason of hard work, while Moss is coming off offseason ankle surgery but expects to be close to 100 percent for training camp. It's anyone's guess as to whether Singletary or Moss will provide the better value in 2021. Moss is a much bigger back than his teammate and has the ability to earn more between-the-tackle and goal-line runs, while Singletary has more experience, isn't coming off an injury, and has apparently used the offseason to get himself into great shape while Moss has been busy rehabbing.

Impact Singletary, while shifty and excellent in small spaces, has really lacked breakaway speed as an NFL running back (he ran a 4.66 40 at the combine a few years ago), so even if the story is a bit overblown this can only be a good thing for the third-year running back. The Florida Atlantic product will be competing in camp with Zack Moss and newcomer Matt Breida for carries, though between perhaps the hint of extra speed to go with the fact that Moss still isn't able to practice following ankle surgery, the offseason news seems favorable toward Singletary's quest to gain as large a share as possible. That said, Singletary isn't much of a touchdown threat with just four rushing scores over his first two seasons. Plus, quarterback Josh Allen frequently takes away scores from the entire running back crew.
