Impact This is unfortunate timing for Lock, as he handled all of the first-team reps at practice Tuesday and was slated to draw the start against Chicago. While coach Pete Carroll maintains that Geno Smith is the team's No. 1 quarterback, the starting opportunity would have been a chance for Lock to make an impression. He will now have to wait until he's cleared to return to practice in order to prepare for his next chance to see game action, which would be the Seahawks' preseason finale on Aug. 26. In his absence, Smith and Jacob Eason are the lone healthy quarterbacks on the Seahawks' roster.

Starting Thursday Coach Pete Carroll announced Lock will start Thursday's preseason game against the Bears, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact For the first time since training camp opened, Lock handled all of the first-team reps at practice Tuesday, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Afterward, Carroll told Condotta the development was part of the plan for the Seahawks' quarterback competition but reiterated that Geno Smith remains the team's No. 1 quarterback. It's unclear how much run Lock will get with the starters Thursday, but if the breakdown is similar to preseason Week 1, he may play one half before handing the offense over to Smith.

Impact The Seahawks have given Geno Smith every chance to run away with the starting job, but Smith -- who has taken most of the reps with the starting offense during training camp -- has struggled thus far, and Lock has shown enough flashes to make this a true competition. To that end, Carroll intends to have Lock and Smith rotate in with the first-team offense so that whomever wins the job will have familiarity with star receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Smith will start in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, but expect both quarterbacks to get some reps with the starters, though it's unclear how much Metcalf and Lockett will play in the exhibition.
