Increased role on tap Edwards is in line for an increased role Thursday against the Steelers after Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Jamison Hensley of ESPN reports.
Impact The Ravens' backfield depth is depleted in light of this news, but Edwards has shown he can handle an increased workload in the past. Edwards got the start against the Steelers in Week 17 of 2019 and took 21 carries for 130 yards. He also had his best game of the season to this point against Pittsburgh in Week 8 when he took 16 carries for 87 yards and a score. Edwards is coming off his quietest outing of the season -- a three-carry, six-yard performance against the Titans -- but that was due in part to Dobbins seeing the bulk of the backfield work. Look for Edwards to handle most of the carries Thursday against the Steelers, with Justice Hill in a backup role.

Impact Edwards was out-carried by J.K. Dobbins 15-3 and made no notable contributions to the outcome of the game. He did get one carry more than Mark Ingram, who has seen his role in the offense diminished. Even so, since Ingram returned in Week 10 against New England, Edwards has commanded only 10 rushing attempts across two contests.

Impact Mark Ingram was back, which impacted the snap distribution in the Baltimore backfield. Still, Edwards was effective when on the field. His snap share fell below 25 percent but Edwards is still seeing carries on a high percentage of his snaps. Put another way, Edwards has a 44.3 percentage of snaps with a touch, which is 63rd percentile among running backs. It's also worth noting that Edwards has gotten some work in the passing game the last three weeks; Edwards had three targets in six games before the bye and now has three catches for 42 yards in three games since the bye. It's not a significant target volume, but given Edwards' previous absence from the passing game, this is a development worth monitoring in the coming weeks. Baltimore hosts Tennessee on Sunday.

Impact While Ingram was sidelined during last week's loss to the Steelers, both Edwards and Dobbins enjoyed productive days while splitting the backfield work. Though Dobbins outsnapped him 54-26, Edwards still carried 16 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. So long as the Ravens can at least keep the game competitive throughout, Edwards should continue to stay involved on the ground, though Dobbins' superiority as a pass catcher gives him the higher fantasy ceiling of the two.

Impact Edwards was inserted into a prominent role Week 6 against the Eagles as Mark Ingram (ankle) exited after nine offensive snaps. The Miami product garnered a season-high 14 carries during a 30-28 win over Philadelphia, and Sunday he again set a 2020 best in that category while establishing a 5.4 yards-per-carry average. There's no guarantee Ingram returns next Sunday against the Colts, as he continues to recuperate from a high-ankle issue. In a scenario in which Ingram sits again, Edwards would likely continue to split carries with J.K. Dobbins atop the Baltimore backfield. It's a challenging matchup upcoming, as Indianapolis held Detroit to a measly 29 team rushing yards during Week 8.
