Filling in for Njoku Bryant has received practice snaps in place of the injured David Njoku (wrist), Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
Impact Njoku is experiencing soreness in the same wrist he injured in 2019, though the issue doesn't appear to be serious at this time. Bryant has stood out in camp both with his play on the field and with his ability to grasp the offense. "He is a very locked-in young man," coach Kevin Stefanski told Scott Patsko of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He is on top of his assignments. He plays with great effort. Very pleased with where he is. He has a ton of work to do. Everything that he is doing is happening for the first time for him, but pleased with his progression." The consensus entering the regular season is that Bryant will sit behind Austin Hooper and Njoku on the depth chart, but the 2020 fourth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic could eventually push for more playing time.

Impact The Browns are giving Bryant a good look early in camp, and he's setting himself up for longer looks as camp wears on. The 2019 John Mackey Award winner can play off the line, something he did often at Florida Atlantic and the Browns want to do with their tight ends. Impact In addition to signing Austin Hooper to the most expensive contract for a tight end earlier this offseason, Cleveland invested a fourth-round pick into rookie Harrison Bryant during April's draft. As a result, Brown looks firmly situated behind at least three other options in the team's tight end room, leaving him to tentatively compete for a sole depth role left up for grabs. That said, new coach Kevin Stefanski did utilize multiple tight ends at the highest rate in the league last season (57 percent), per Trotter, so Cleveland could be motivated to utilized a larger than standard amount of players at the position.

Impact Bryant is primarily a tight end, if an undersized one, but he has experience at H-back, being split out wide and playing in the slot. The fourth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic University could line up at multiple spots for the Browns, similar to Minnesota's Irv Smith, the 2019 second-round pick who served as a second tight end under then-VIkings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski. He caught 36 of 47 targets, one target fewer than No. 1 tight end Kyle Rudolph, while scoring two touchdowns for the Vikes.
