Quicker than expected recovery Phillips was back at practice Wednesday after missing time with a knee injury, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports.

Impact Phillips had been a candidate for IR to begin the season, but general manager Brandon Beane stated Wednesday that the lineman is one of the players that may avoid that designation. While the fourth-year player out of Stanford isn't much of an IDP guy, he's a decent run stopper and can only help as the Steelers try to run the ball against the Bills' high-powered squad in Week 1, assuming of course Phillips keeps progressing and can be active for the game.

The 2018 third-rounder was competing for a spot on the 53-man roster during camp, but it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to the field.

Struggling in return from surgery Phillips has sat out the past two games as a healthy inactive.

Impact Phillips was a promising defensive tackle out of Stanford in 2018, but he's never really gotten his career on track and a major knee injury sidelined him for most of 2019. While healthy again, he's struggled in his return with just seven tackles and no sacks in six 2020 games. We'll see if he can work his way back into the rotation following the Week 11 bye, but for now he's simply a reserve player on a team that could really use a boost in the middle of its interior D-Line.
