Pharaoh Brown - Week 1 starter Brown was named the starter at tight end for Sunday's season opener against the Jaguars, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact The Texans are expected to use all three of their tight ends, but Brown is considered the best blocker of the bunch. As the plan is to establish a ground game and rely heavily on it, Brown gets the starting nod over Jordan Akins and rookie Brevin Jordan. At 6-foot-6, the 258-pound Brown could be a helpful target in the red zone, an area the Texans would like to improve upon in 2021.

Whitney Mercilus - Full participant in practice Mercilus (hamstring) was a full participant in Friday's practice and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Jaguars.
Impact Mercilus suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain in the Texans' preseason finale and was limited in practice to begin the week, but he's back to full health ahead of the season opener. The 31-year-old should take on a starting role after he totaled 21 tackles (12 solo) and four sacks in 2020.

Kevin Pierre-Louis - Questionable Sunday Pierre-Louis is questionable for Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Jaguars due to a thigh injury.
Impact Pierre was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, but he was held out Thursday and Friday. If the 2014 fourth-rounder is unable to suit up for the season opener, Joe Thomas will likely take on a starting role.

Lonnie Johnson Jr. - Won't play Sunday Johnson (thigh) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Jaguars.
Impact Johnson hasn't practiced all week due to a thigh issue, and the injury will keep him out for the season opener. It's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return for the Week 2 contest against the Browns, but he should serve as depth in the Texans' secondary once he's fully healthy.

Impact The decision was foretold after GM Nick Caserio relayed Wednesday that he didn't "expect him (Watson) to play" Week 1.
