Jacob Eason - Ample preseason action on deck Coach Frank Reich said "[Eason is] probably going to play a lot more than Carson [Wentz] would" this preseason, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
Impact The majority of Indianapolis' starters will likely only handle sparse preseason snaps in order to avoid potential injuries, but with Wentz looking at a 5-to-12 week recovery timetable after undergoing foot surgery, Eason will need all the game reps he can get. As a result of the 2020 fourth-round pick redshirting behind Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett as a rookie, the Colts have only really been able to evaluate him in practices. Reich recently indicated that he expects Eason to play two quarters in Indianapolis' preseason opener against Carolina on Aug. 15.

Impact Nelson was a rotational contributor for the Cardinals from 2015-18, but in 2019 he only logged two games with the Raiders, and in 2020 he failed to make San Francisco's roster. Now on IR due to a groin injury picked up early during training camp, the veteran speedster's chances of reestablishing a role in the NFL are looking increasingly slim.

Impact Wilkins had been held out of practice since Tuesday due to a minor hamstring injury, but he's now been given the green light to rejoin teammates on the field. The 2018 fifth-round pick handled a career-high 84 carries last season, though though his YPC dropped down to 3.7 after sitting at 5.6 and 6.0 in 2018 and 2019.
