Dubbed day-to-day by coach Coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday that Winston (knee/foot) is day-to-day, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Impact Allen also revealed that the injury sustained by Winston during Monday's practice is a sprained foot. Winston, who is also in the later stages of recovering from a left ACL tear, has already been ruled out for Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans, which leaves Andy Dalton primed to lead the first-team offense. It remains to be seen when Winston will be cleared to return to game action, considering that the Saints could be cautious in easing him back, but it's a relief to see that the 28-year-old has at least avoided a serious injury.

Impact Winston suffered a foot injury during Monday's practice and is expected to miss a few days of practice, but it appears that he's managed to sidestep a serious issue. His next chance to suit up for preseason action will come August 19 in Green Bay. Winston is in the late stages of rehabbing from a torn left ACL suffered Week 8 last season, so the Saints could opt for caution. In the meantime, Andy Dalton stands to helm the first-team offense.

Injures foot, not ankle Monday Winston (knee) sustained a foot injury at Monday's practice, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Impact Initially, coach Dennis Allen noted Winston "rolled his ankle," resulting in an early exit from the session, per Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com. But both Johnson and Jane Slater of NFL Network received confirmation after the fact that Winston is tending to a foot issue. Winston is in the later stages of his recovery from a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee that he suffered Week 8 of last season, so the Saints may exercise utmost caution while he recovers from the current concern. If Winston is sidelined for any length of time, Andy Dalton is on hand to handle the reps with the first-team offense.

Impact Winston has shown signs of progress in his recovery from knee surgery throughout the offseason, but this is his biggest step yet. Given how far along Winston's rehab is in July, he'll almost certainly be ready to start for the Saints when the regular season begins in September, barring a setback.
