Resurfaces on practice squad The Chargers signed Patterson to the practice squad Wednesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Los Angeles waived Patterson on Monday after activating running backs Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins from IR, but he now re-signs with the team as an emergency depth option. Unless the Chargers suffer further injuries in the backfield down the stretch, however, it's unlikely that Patterson will be called upon as a gameday contributor again.

Impact Patterson will be elevated to the Chargers' active roster for a third consecutive week, and he is expected to serve as the primary backup to Kimani Vidal on Sunday. Patterson has turned 20 carries into 74 yards in two regular-season games, though Vidal will be the top pass-catching back as the former has not recorded a target this season.

Impact Patterson was elevated for Sunday's Week 9 win over Tennessee and worked as Los Angeles' No. 2 running back (behind Kimani Vidal), logging 18 of 65 offensive snaps. Patterson ended up out-producing Vidal despite the relatively small snap share, tallying 44 yards on nine carries (to Vidal's 30 yards on 12 rushes). Patterson's presence became a necessity with all of Omarion Hampton (ankle), Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Najee Harris (Achilles) on IR. Vidal is currently the only healthy running back on the Chargers' 53-man roster, so it would be surprising if Patterson isn't elevated again (or signed to the roster) ahead of Sunday's Week 10 matchup against Pittsburgh.

Impact Kimani Vidal (12 carries for 30 yards, no receptions on one target) drew the start and led the backfield with a 72 percent snap share, but Patterson outproduced him on the ground, despite playing just 18 of the Chargers' 65 offensive snaps (28 percent). The Chargers are still likely to prioritize Vidal as their top passing-down back, but the delineation of the workload on the ground between the two players could become more even moving forward in light of Patterson's strong showing in Week 9. Patterson will revert to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, but he's a strong bet to be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster in advance of next Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Impact Patterson was signed to the Chargers' practice squad Oct. 14 and joined fellow running back Nyheim Hines as gameday elevations for Thursday's game against the Vikings due to Hassan Haskins (hamstring) being inactive. Patterson ended up playing 15 snaps on offense and turned 11 carries into 30 yards, with six of those carries coming in the fourth quarter with the Chargers holding a commanding lead. Hines has already been elevated by the Chargers from the practice squad for the maximum three times, so Patterson would be a candidate to be promoted to the active roster for Week 9 against the Titans on Sunday, Nov. 2.
