Signs on with Green Bay Smith agreed to terms Thursday with the Packers on a one-year deal, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Impact Shortly after Smith was cut loose by the Cowboys on Tuesday, the linebacker-needy Packers emerged as one of the top suitors for his services. Though he spent most of Wednesday weighing offers from various clubs, Smith ultimately committed to Green Bay, as expected. After falling behind Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch and Keanu Neal in the pecking order in Dallas, Smith should have a clearer path to recapturing a starting role with the Packers. While working as a full-time starter for Dallas in 2020, Smith was one of the top IDP performers at his position, finishing with 154 tackles, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks and an interception in 16 games.
