INJURIES

Likely to be promoted Driskel is expected to be promoted to the Texans' active roster Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's contest against the Panthers. In his absence, rookie third-round pick Davis Mills is expected to draw his first career start. Driskel, who has nine career starts, is expected to be promoted and to serve as the backup behind Mills during Week 3.

Rejoins Houston Driskel was signed to Houston's practice squad Wednesday.
Impact Driskel was with the Texans during the preseason and was a camp casualty Tuesday before rejoining the team Wednesday. Houston's quarterback situation may eventually change, but starting Week 1, Tyrod Taylor is expected to start with third-round pick Davis Mills backing him up. Meanwhile Deshaun Watson made the 53-man roster, but he's not expected to suit up Sundays.

No resolution to Watson dilemma as he stays on Texans roster

Quarterback Deshaun Watson remained on the active roster as the Houston Texans made cuts to reduce their roster to 53 players
AUGUST 31, 2021 • Associated Press
Fails to make 53-man roster Driskel was cut by the Texans on Monday, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact Driskel wasn't expected to make the roster with expected starter Tyrod Taylor and rookie third-round pick Davis Mills on the team in addition to Deshaun Watson, who could reportedly be a healthy scratch all year. The 28-year-old quarterback has played in 15 games (nine starts) over the last three seasons, completing 59 percent of his passes for 2,120 yards (6.1 YPA), 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran for 309 yards and three scores. Driskel may serve as practice-squad depth for the Texans.

Lands in Houston Driskel agreed Wednesday with the Texans on a one-year contract worth up to $2.5 million Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Driskel's deal contains a $1 million base salary with numerous potential bonuses and incentives. Given the murky situation surrounding Deshaun Watson's future with the Texans, Driskel's landing spot is more intriguing for fantasy purposes than if he had been brought in to compete for a backup gig elsewhere. Beyond Watson, Driskel will vie for depth-chart slotting with veterans Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Finley, as well as rookie third-round pick Davis Mills.

Could sign with Dallas Driskel will meet with the Cowboys on Friday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact If the 28-year-old signs with the Cowboys, he would likely slot in as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott (ankle). Driskel has played for three different teams in his three-year NFL career since making his debut for the Bengals in 2018, posting a 13:8 TD:INT, 58.6 percent completion rate and 6.1 YPA in 15 games.

Ousted from QB room The Broncos released Driskel on Monday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact Driskel threw three touchdowns and two interceptions in three appearances (one start) for the Broncos last season. Per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, his release saves the team $2.5 million in cap space. Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater and Brett Rypien remain under contract for Denver.
MAY 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Finishes 2020 with three touchdowns Driskel completed 35 of 64 passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions during the 2020 season. He added 28 yards on six carries.
Impact Driskel filled in admirably for Drew Lock after the latter injured his shoulder in Week 2 against Pittsburgh, nearly leading the comeback. A ho-hum outing in Week 3 against Tampa Bay pushed him down the depth chart, and he didn't record a touch after a carry in Week 4. Driskel actually finished with a team-high quarterback rating of 78.4, but that does not quite provide the veteran stability Denver needs with youngsters Lock and Brett Rypien on the roster. The Broncos would have a net savings of $2.5 million against the cap should they move on from Driskel, and that seems likely as the team figures to look for a more established hedge for its bet on Lock.
