Throws three TDs in loss Flacco completed 18 of 25 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Monday night's 30-27 loss to the Patriots.
Impact Flacco enjoyed an excellent start to the game, beating the Patriots' secondary with a couple vintage deep balls. He first found Breshad Perriman with a 50-yard touchdown to begin the second quarter, then dropped in a beautiful 20-yarder to Jamison Crowder just before halftime. With another TD connection with Perriman in the third -- this time from 15 yards -- Flacco put the Jets in a strong position to seal their first win, but a fourth-quarter interception and other team miscues undid that effort. With New York now entering its bye week, it's unclear whether Flacco or Sam Darnold (shoulder) will be under center when the team returns to face the Chargers in Week 11.

Impact Darnold aggravated his right shoulder injury in the Jets' Week 8 loss at Kansas City, setting the stage for Flacco to see action for the fourth time this season. While his completion percentage is only 52, with 397 yards, one touchdown and one interception in three appearances, Flacco will have the Jets' top three wide receivers available (Jamison Crowder, Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims). Flacco will look to exploit a Patriots defense that has allowed an NFL-worst 8.6 yards per attempt this season.

Likely starting Monday Flacco is expected to start Monday against the Patriots after Sam Darnold re-injured his throwing shoulder, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Impact Add yet another marker to a bizarre season for Jets quarterbacks. Darnold injured his shoulder in a Week 4 contest against the Broncos, missing two games only to return and post relatively mundane numbers in losses to the Bills and Chiefs, respectively. The 2018 first-round pick evidently re-injured his shoulder in the latest aforementioned loss, although both Darnold and coach Adam Gase seemed to suggest earlier in the week the injury wasn't particularly serious. The tune has certainly changed now with Flacco all but confirmed to start Monday against the Patriots. In his two starts earlier this season, Flacco completed just over 50 percent of his passes for 381 yards and one touchdown to go along with an interception. Reinforcements could be on the way for Flacco though, as it looks as if the Jets might have all three of their top pass catchers available with Breshad Perriman (concussion) and Jamison Crowder (groin) both trending in the right direction to start alongside Denzel Mims.

Impact While Darnold was sidelined for the last two games with a sprained shoulder, Flacco oversaw an unproductive offense in blowout losses to the Cardinals and Dolphins, completing only 39 of 77 passes (50.6 percent) for one touchdown, one interception and just 4.9 yards per attempt. Though Darnold may still end up carrying a designation into the weekend after being a limited participant through the Jets' first two practices of the week, Gase noted the young signal-caller is "trending in the right direction" and should be ready to start "barring any setbacks." Darnold's presence should offer an improved outlook for New York's other pass-catching options compared to Flacco, but the winless Jets will still be heavy home underdogs against the division-leading Bills.
