Impact Two straight difficult defenses have baffled the Chargers offense and Williams has bared the brunt of the struggles. One game after a dismal two catches, 27 yards against the Ravens, the Patriots were able to scheme an effective strategy for Williams, holding the big-bodied wideout to yet another dismal performance. While fantasy managers are obviously disappointed in the slump, Williams has proven to be a staple of an effective Chargers offense, a qualifier that figures to re-appear against an Eagles defense that has struggled against good opposing offenses this season.

Impact It's at least reassuring for fantasy managers Allen can survive a poor outing offensively from the Chargers as the veteran receiver caught five passes for 50 yards in the demoralizing Week 6 drubbing by the Ravens and followed it up with a 6-77-1 day in an equally disappointing performance Sunday. The Patriots run-heavy approach seemed to discombobulate the Chargers rhythm as quarterback Justin Herbert narrowly completed over 50 percent of his pass attempts, but the confusion seemed to impact Mike Williams (two catches for 19 yards on five attempts) far more than the ever-reliable Allen. It'll be interesting to see if the offense will become more efficient in what figures to be a favorable matchup next week against the Eagles.

Austin Ekeler - Big day in loss Ekeler (hip) carried the ball 11 times for 64 yards and a touchdown and also caught six of his 10 targets for 60 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Patriots.
Impact Despite appearing on the injury report late in the week with a hip injury and eventually earning a questionable designation for Sunday's contest, Ekeler was a critical factor of a disjointed offense that was plagued by miscommunication. The end result saw the dynamic tailback tally his third straight game with at least four receptions and 40 receiving yards, and his fourth total game this season with at least 50 rushing and receiving yards. The 27-year-old is easily on pace to set a career high in both attempts and rushing yards, but the extra rushing workload coupled with a bigger focus on receiver Mike Williams has marginally whittled into Ekeler's receiving workload. Expect another strong day for the star running back when the Chargers take on the susceptible linebacking corps of the Eagles next week.

Impact After a sizzling four-game stretch to begin the season, Herbert and the rest of the Chargers have come back down to earth. Sunday marked the second straight game in which the second-year quarterback completed under 60 percent of his passes. Credit that somewhat to the Patriots' run-heavy approach which limited Herbert to his fewest passing attempts this season, but even when the Chargers did have the ball miscommunication with his receivers was an issue. Most notably, Herbert sailed a pass intended for tight end Jared Cook late in the fourth quarter which turned into a game-sealing pick six and while he was able to lead a junk-time touchdown the ensuing drive, the aforementioned interception was a perfect encapsulation of the dreary day. Things should get a little easier next week against an inconsistent Eagles defense.
