Jerry Tillery - Carted off field Saturday Tillery left Saturday's practice session on a cart due to a lower right leg injury, Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Impact Tillery signed a one-year deal with the Vikings in March after spending the last two years with the Raiders, and the 2019 first-round pick is slated to start at defensive end opposite Jonathan Bullard. If Tillery were to miss extended time, Jonah Williams and Jihad Ward are candidates to see more snaps with the first-team defense during training camp and preseason games.

T.J. Hockenson - Ahead of schedule in recovery Speaking Friday, coach Kevin O'Connell said Hockenson (knee, PUP) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL, Joe Nelson of Sports Illustrated reports.

Impact "Every time I see him working on the side field it becomes awful tempting to ... demand answers on when we'll be able to stat implementing him maybe off the PUP list and get him a little bit of work," O'Connell said. "Whether it's just simply individual, some routes on air, start getting him some timing with our quarterbacks. ... Where he's at, albeit very well ahead of maybe where some of the medical folks thought he would be, there is an injury there that a timeline exists and we're going to try to stay true to that while also giving him opportunities to push to maybe shrink that timeline a little bit." Hockenson is just over seven months removed from tearing his ACL on Christmas Eve last year. While O'Connell is excited about his tight end's progress, smart money would still be on Hockenson starting the season on reserve/PUP, knocking him out for at least the first four games of 2024. Making it back in time for Week 1 would be unprecedented territory for an ACL recovery. Josh Oliver is expected to handle TE1 duties for Minnesota for however long Hockenson is sidelined.

Robert Tonyan - Lower back spasms confirmed Coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed Friday that Tonyan is dealing with lower-back spasms.

Impact Tonyan, who was carted off the field Wednesday, didn't practice Friday, but O'Connell hopes to have the tight end back in time for the team's preseason games. Once Tonyan returns to the mix, he'll continue to compete with Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt for added pass-catching opportunities in the Vikings offense while T.J. Hockenson (knee) remains sidelined.

Kene Nwangwu - Getting more reps this summer Nwangwu has taken more reps in training camp than in years past, but he's still a clear third on the depth chart at running back, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Impact The veteran running back appeared in just nine games last season, dealing with a back injury that landed him on injured reserve early in the 2023 campaign. He had just five carries for 13 yards on offense. He's an impact kick return when healthy, however. While he's not likely to get many carries behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, it sounds like he could be next in line should there be an injury.

Robert Tonyan - Diagnosed with back spasms Tonyan, who was carted off the field during Wednesday's practice session, was diagnosed with back spasms, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Impact Tonyan was down on the field for an extended period of time before being carted off, per Lewis. It appears the tight end has avoided serious injury, though he may be held out of the next few practice sessions until medical staff get a better sense on the severity of the injury. With Tonyan and T.J. Hockenson (knee) both sidelined, Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt should see some reps with the first-team offense during drills.

Lewis Cine - Dealing with leg injury Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Tuesday that Cine is dealing with a lower leg injury and is considered "day-to-day," Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Impact Cine played in just seven regular-season games for the Vikings last season, partially due to a hamstring injury but he was also a healthy scratch for two games. He played eight snaps on defense and 83 snaps on special teams last year and posted one tackle. Cine is battling for a depth spot in the Vikings' secondary.

Fabian Moreau - Headed to Minnesota The Vikings signed Moreau on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Impact Moreau started in 11 of 16 regular-season games for the Broncos last season, recording 46 tackles (33 solo), seven passes defended and one interception. The 2017 third-round pick out of UCLA brings much-needed depth at corner after Mekhi Blackmon suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury in the first practice of Vikings training camp, while fellow corners Byron Murphy (knee - MCL) and Shaquill Griffin (leg) are also dealing with injuries.

J.J. McCarthy - More reps coming in August Coach Kevin O'Connell said Tuesday that McCarthy will get more first-team reps later in training camp, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Sam Darnold dominated first-team reps throughout the offseason and now into the first week of training camp, making him the favorite to start Week 1 even though McCarthy was drafted 10th overall in April. McCarthy will eventually get more work with the starters, which also will allow the coaches to see how Darnold looks without Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison to lean on. While fantasy players might be anticipating a QB battle, it sounds like O'Connell is currently more concerned with installing his offense and making sure all the quarterbacks are capable of running it. Things could get more interesting in August if McCarthy looks especially sharp during practices and preseason games.

Will Reichard - Wins kicking competition Reichard's competitor for the Vikings' top kicker spot, John Parker Romo, was waived by the team Monday, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Impact It appears that Reichard has won the job for Minnesota's kicking duties in 2024, which is no surprise considering the Alabama product was the first kicker selected in this year's NFL Draft. Reichard now stands alone as the only kicker on the Vikings' roster.

Andrew Van Ginkel - Returns to practice Van Ginkel (foot) participated in 11-on-11 practice Saturday for the first time during training camp, Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated reports.

Impact Van Ginkel sustained a foot injury during the Dolphins' regular-season finale last season that held him out of the team's playoff loss to the Chiefs. It looks like he's on pace to be ready for the start of the regular season. He signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Vikings after the season and is expected to serve as one of the team's top edge rushers.

Impact Last summer, Addison pled guilty to a misdemeanor speeding charge after being cited for driving 140 miles per hour in Minnesota. The pattern of behavior could lead the NFL to discipline Addison, but the timing of any possible suspension remains in doubt. The NFL will likely let the legal process play out which could stretch well into the regular season. Addison's remarks, however, make it seem like he anticipates some kind of punishment from either the NFL or the legal system.
