Juwan Johnson - Full practice Thursday Johnson (shoulder) practiced in full Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Stretching back to last week, Johnson was listed as limited on four consecutive practice reports due to a shoulder before Thursday's uncapped session. With his health cleared up ahead of the weekend, he'll continue on as the Saints' top TE, which could be a boon for him with Derek Carr (oblique) expected to return to action Sunday at Carolina.

Alvin Kamara - Another limited showing Kamara (hand/rib) practiced on a limited basis Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Kamara continues to be plagued by the fractured ribs he suffered Week 3 and a broken hand that he picked up Week 5. Still, he's remained the most reliable skill-position player for the Saints along the way, averaging 20.1 touches for 101.5 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring seven total TDs in eight contests. Friday's injury report will reveal whether Kamara goes into the weekend without a designation for a fifth week in a row.

Derek Carr - Remains limited in practice Carr (oblique) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Since straining his left oblique Week 5 at Kansas City, Carr has missed three consecutive games and didn't practice until this Wednesday, but he's now cobbled together back-to-back capped sessions. There's an expectation that Carr will return to action Sunday in Carolina, but it remains to be seen how he'll be listed on Friday's injury report, and who else may be available to the offense. Among skill players on the active roster, RB Alvin Kamara remains limited by hand and rib fractures and WRs Bub Means (ankle) and Cedrick Wilson (hip) also are banged-up, but Carr at least will have top WR Chris Olave and TE Juwan Johnson (shoulder) at his services.

Tyrann Mathieu - Dealing with illness Mathieu (illness) did not practice Wednesday.
Impact Mathieu is working through an illness, which will impact his practice participation over the next two days. Even if he's limited Thursday and Friday, he should be able to suit up for Sunday's game against Carolina, though he could enter the game with an injury designation. Through the first eight games of the regular season, Mathieu has logged 33 tackles (26 solo), three passes defended, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Marshon Lattimore - DNP to open week Lattimore (hamstring) was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's injury report.
Impact Lattimore aggravated his hamstring injury during this past Sunday's game against the Chargers, and he finished the contest with two solo tackles while playing 41 snaps on defense. His DNP to open the week isn't a good start, but he'll have two more chances to practice before Sunday's game against the Panthers.

Kendre Miller - Opens week as DNP Miller (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
Impact Miller suffered a hamstring injury early in the second half of this past Sunday's game against the Chargers, which was severe enough for him to be ruled out for the rest of the contest. Miller will have two more chances to practice in at least a limited capacity before Sunday's game against the Panthers. If Miller is unable to suit up, Jamaal Williams would step into the backup role behind lead back Alvin Kamara.

Jamaal Williams - Nursing groin injury Williams (groin) was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday's injury report.
Impact Williams played 30 snaps (21 on offense, nine on special teams) during the Saints' Week 8 loss to the Chargers and finished with just two carries for four yards. It was his highest snap count since Week 1, but that was due to Kendre Miller suffering a hamstring injury early in the second half. Miller was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's injury report, and if he cannot play against the Panthers on Sunday, Williams would reprise his role as the No. 2 running back behind Alvin Kamara, assuming Williams is able to overcome his groin injury.

Cedrick Wilson Jr. - No practice Wednesday Wilson (hip) didn't practice Wednesday.
Impact The same can be said for fellow WR Bub Means, who emerged from the Saints' Week 8 defeat to the Chargers with a high-ankle sprain. Wilson hasn't practiced since last Wednesday, when he was limited, so he may need to return to the field in at least that capacity to have a chance to return to action Sunday in Carolina. At the moment, Chris Olave, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Johnson are the healthy options at the position on New Orleans' active roster.

Bub Means - Sits out Wednesday Means (ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.
Impact This doesn't come as a surprise as Means came out of this past Sunday's loss to the Chargers with a high-ankle sprain, which typically results in a multi-game absence. It's very likely Means' status will receive clarity by week's end, and there's also the prospect of fellow WR Cedrick Wilson, who didn't practice Wednesday, to miss time due to a hip injury. Currently, Chris Olave, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Johnson are the health options at the position on the Saints' active roster.

Juwan Johnson - Remains limited by shoulder issue Johnson was limited at Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Impact For a second week in a row, Johnson is tending to a shoulder concern, but on a positive note the Saints didn't include any mention of the head injury that he was evaluated for this past Sunday at the Chargers. He'll thus aim to return to full participation Thursday and/or Friday and sidestep a designation ahead of Sunday's game at Carolina.

Alvin Kamara - Limited Wednesday Kamara (hand/rib) was limited at Wednesday's practice, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Impact Kamara has been tending to fractured ribs since Week 3 and a broken right hand Week 5, which have regularly resulted in a cap on his practice reps in the meantime. In six games during that span, he's racked up 522 yards from scrimmage and two rushing TDs on 119 touches, but he's averaged only 3.6 yards per carry and 6.5 yards per catch. Kamara has a pair of sessions remaining this week to get back to full participation or else potentially risking entering the weekend with a designation for Sunday's visit to the Panthers.

Nephi Sewell - Designated to return Sewell (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Impact Sewell has missed New Orleans' first eight games this year while recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 17 of the 2023 season. The Utah product will now have 21 days to be activated to the Saints' active roster before reverting to IR. Expect Sewell to serve as one of New Orleans' top rotational inside linebackers once he returns to the field.

Shane Lemieux - Practice window opens Lemieux (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Impact New Orleans now has 21 days to activate Lemieux to its active roster before reverting back to IR. Expect the 27-year-old offensive lineman from Oregon to reclaim the Saints' starting center role once he's returned to the field.

Jake Haener - Likely backing up Carr in Week 9 Haener is expected to serve as the Saints' No. 2 quarterback behind Derek Carr (oblique) in Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The 2023 fourth-round pick out of Fresno State took over for Spencer Rattler midway through the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Chargers. Haener completed nine of his 17 pass attempts for 122 yards while adding 10 rushing yards on two carries in Week 8, and it now appears that performance was enough to secure New Orleans' top backup quarterback role from Rattler moving forward.

Derek Carr - Limited in return to practice Carr (oblique) had his reps limited at Wednesday's practice but is still expected to start this Sunday at Carolina, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Coach Dennis Allen reiterated Wednesday that Carr is likely to return from a three-game absence, after making similar comments Monday. The Saints have lost six straight games amidst numerous injuries, including three consecutive losses by margins of 18 or more points while Carr was out with the oblique injury. Chris Olave is now healthy, but the Saints don't have much else at wide receiver, with Rashid Shaheed (knee) out for the season and both Bub Means (ankle) and Cedrick Wilson (hip) missing Wednesday's practice.

Demario Davis - Nice outing despite loss Davis recorded nine tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 26-8 loss against the Chargers.
Impact Davis once again led Saints linebackers in defensive snaps in Week 8, and he tied for the team lead in total tackles. He's still on pace for his eighth consecutive pro season with at least 100 tackles, and he's still firmly on the IDP radar going into a Week 9 matchup at Carolina.

Pete Werner - Racks up nine tackles Sunday Werner recorded nine tackles (seven solo) during Sunday's 26-8 loss against the Chargers.
Impact Werner played nearly every single one of the Saints' defensive snaps in his return from a three-game absence due to a hamstring injury, and he actually set a new season-high tackle total for himself. He'll be on the fringe of IDP consideration in some formats for a Week 9 showdown at Carolina.
