Impact Lindsay's involvement in the ground game was utterly forgettable, but he gave fantasy managers who may have deployed him in deep season-long or daily contests something to smile about with his scoring grab in the latter portion of the first quarter to knot the game at 7-7. The former Bronco's role is going to almost assuredly fluctuate week to week as long as fellow proven backfield mates David Johnson and Mark Ingram also are healthy, making Lindsay a risky weekly proposition.

Looking ahead to a Week 2 matchup against the Browns, Lindsay will need to find more consistent involvement in the offense to make a major impact on the stat sheet.

Impact This was not an encouraging performance for Lindsay, either based on his own numbers or on the backfield context around him. Mark Ingram got the start and was more effective in general, and he scored Houston's only offensive TD of the night from two yards out after Lindsay got bottled up on a carry from the four-yard line. David Johnson also spotted in on third downs during the first quarter. If Ingram is the primary goal-line back and Johnson the primary pass catcher among the trio, that doesn't leave a lot of fantasy-friendly opportunities left over for the former Bronco. This is shaping up to be a true backfield committee during the regular season, which would put a very firm ceiling on Lindsay's value.

Could lead team in carries Lindsay should have a spot on the Week 1 roster and may even lead the Texans in carries this year, according to Aaron Reiss of The Athletic.

Impact David Johnson was Houston's lead back last year, but it was Lindsay who got the start in the preseason opener and Mark Ingram who had the honor of being rested. Handling early downs with the first-team offense, Lindsay took five carries for 14 yards, ceding only third downs to Johnson. Furthermore, the Texans list two tailbacks as starters -- Ingram and Lindsay -- on their initial preseason depth chart, while Johnson was placed with the second unit. None of this means Johnson is buried, but it is clear the Houston backfield will be tricky to decipher before the start of the regular season. The team's next preseason contest is Saturday in Dallas.
