2024-25 NFL odds: Bears-Texans Hall of Fame Game bets voided

J.J. Taylor - Rushing leader ThursdayTaylor rushed for 16 yards on six carries and returned one punt for four yards in Thursday's 21-17 preseason loss to Chicago.

ImpactTaylor is on the fringes of the backfield depth chart, but he has significant collegiate experience returning kicks (kickoffs, not punts) and did some while with New England the last three seasons. It would seem his clearest path to a roster spot would be as a special teamer.

Dare Ogunbowale - Starts ThursdayOgunbowale had three carries for 14 yards and caught both targets for 21 yards in Thursday's 21-17 preseason loss to the Bears.

ImpactOgunbowale got the starting assignment Thursday, as Joe Mixon (quadriceps) and Dameon Pierce (coach's decision) were held out of the lineup. Given his experience in the system and work on special teams, Ogunbowales should be considered the leader for the third spot on the depth chart.

Cade Stover - Three targets ThursdayStover caught two of three targets for 26 yards in Thursday's 21-17 preseason loss to Chicago.

ImpactStover was the lone healthy tight end remaining after Teagan Quitoriano was carted off the field during the second quarter with what appears to be a knee injury. Neither of the top two tight ends -- Dalton Schultz and Brevin Jordan -- suited up and Dalton Keene was unavailable due to a leg injury. Pending Quitoriano's evaluation, the Texans may look to add a veteran tight end in the coming days. Stover, drafted in the fourth round out of Ohio State in 2024, has history with quarterback C.J. Stroud and should see ample opportunities during preseason contests.

Jawhar Jordan - Used as returnerJordan logged three carries for five yards and returned one kickoff for 15 yards in Thursday's 21-17 preseason loss to Chicago.

ImpactHouston's top two backs were held out of the game, giving Jordan, Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale opportunities to impress the coaching staff. Jordan also rotated in on the kickoff-return team with Steven Sims and Johnny Johnson. Ogunbowale is likely the leader among the three at running back, given his experience in the system, but a return job could be winnable for Jordan.
