Velus Jones Jr. - Impresses as running backJones rushed six times for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 33-6 preseason win over the Bills on Saturday.
ImpactOn August 6, coach Matt Eberflus vowed to experiment with Jones as a running back. Eberflus was true to his word, and Jones handled six carries with the reserves, including a 19-yard run and a short touchdown. The Bears invested a third-round pick on Jones in 2022, and aside from contributions on special teams, the team has gotten very little offensive production from him. It may be difficult for the third-year player to move into the top-three spots on the depth chart, but this showing certainly didn't hurt Jones' chances of seeing more work as a running back.

Keon Coleman - One catch in preseason openerColeman caught one of three targets for eight yards in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears.
ImpactColeman didn't make much of a splash in his NFL debut, with his lone catch coming on a pass thrown by backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Coleman worked in with the starting wide receivers, but Josh Allen's pair of first-quarter completions went to Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. Coleman's expected to play a significant role as a rookie in a Bills receiving corps that lost Stefon Diggs in the offseason, and the 2024 second-round pick out of Florida State will try to put forth a stronger showing in next Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.

Ray Davis - Second RB into preseason openerDavis rushed five times for two yards and caught three of four targets for 19 yards in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears.
ImpactDavis was the second running back in the game for Buffalo after James Cook got the start. Cook and Josh Allen subbed out at the end of the first quarter, but the rest of the starters remained in the game as Davis and Mitch Trubisky checked in. Davis didn't find much running room but showcased some nice pass catching ability. The rookie fourth-round pick out of Kentucky is competing with Ty Johnson (hamstring) for the backup role behind Cook. Johnson didn't suit up against the Bears but could be ready to return for next Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.

James Cook - Bottled up in preseason startCook rushed four times for two yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears.
ImpactCook played the entire first quarter alongside Josh Allen before both checked out of the game to begin the second quarter, replaced by Ray Davis and Mitch Trubisky, respectively. While Cook failed to find running room in this one, his breakout 1,122-rushing yard 2023 regular season has earned the 24-year-old running back some breathing room atop the depth chart. The Bills will travel to Pittsburgh for their next preseason game next Saturday.

Josh Allen - Plays first quarter vs. BearsAllen completed two of three passes for 22 yards and rushed once for seven yards in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears.
ImpactAllen played the first quarter, which consisted of one full drive and part of another possession for Buffalo's offense. His completions went to Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, perhaps foreshadowing which wide receivers Allen will be relying on most following the offseason departure of Stefon Diggs. Rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman also mixed in with the first-team offense. Allen will look to keep building chemistry with Buffalo's new-look wide receiver room in next Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.
