Gardner Minshew beats out Aidan O'Connell for Raiders starting quarterback job

Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce says Gardner Minshew will be the team's starting quarterback going into the season
AUGUST 18ASSOCIATED PRESS
Drew Ogletree - Garners first TE target SaturdayOgletree failed to bring in his lone target in Saturday's preseason win over the Cardinals.
ImpactOgletree was the first tight end targeted by fill-in starter Sam Ehlinger in Saturday's exhibition. Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox did not suit up for this contest while Jelani Woods (toe) suffered a minor injury against Arizona. Ogletree figures to still be in the mix for an unsettled tight end depth chart in Indianapolis this season.
AUGUST 18ROTOWIRE
Emari Demercado - Returns from injury SaturdayDemercado (shoulder) had 10 carries for 24 yards and caught his lone target for nine yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Colts.
ImpactDemercado returned from a shoulder injury that held him out of last week's exhibition tilt. The sophomore tailback entered the game in the second quarter behind rookie Trey Benson (9-43-0), but it could have been the coaching staff easing Demercado off the shelf as opposed to a demotion from his projected No. 2 role behind James Conner. Next week's preseason finale should be telling based on how the backup RBs are deployed.
AUGUST 18ROTOWIRE
Clayton Tune - Starts exhibition gameTune completed eight of his 10 pass attempts for 79 yards while rushing twice for 15 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason loss to the Colts.
ImpactTune started under center in place of Kyler Murray (coach's decision) and produced strong results for the second week in a row. The sophomore backup wound up scoring his team's only touchdown with his legs before turning the keys over to fellow backup Desmond Ritter in the second half. Tune outperformed the latter for the second week running, despite flipping roles (and strength of defenses) on both occasions. Perhaps Tune has made a case to leap the slightly more experienced Ritter in the competition for the No. 2 role in Arizona.
AUGUST 18ROTOWIRE
Jason Bean - Rushes for TD in preseason winBean was 7-of-9 passing for 94 yards with an interception in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona. He also had four carries for 14 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run.
ImpactBean has 4.55 speed and there's been talk that he could be converted to wide receiver, but he's played quarterback for the Colts in the preseason. He's listed as QB/WR on the team's official web site. He's only nominally in the running for a roster spot as the Colts may decide to develop him or change his position on the practice squad.
AUGUST 18ROTOWIRE
Matt Gay - Missing field goals in preseasonGay missed field goal attempts from 56 and 64 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona. He converted all three extra-point attempts.
ImpactGay is just 1-for-4 in field-goal attempts in two preseason games, also missing a 36-yard attempt in the first preseason game. His only make is from 26 yards. We wouldn't be too worried about missing two field goals longer than 50 yards, but Gay signed one of the largest contracts in the league for a kicker (four-year, $22.5 million deal) to make long kicks.
AUGUST 18ROTOWIRE
Evan Hull - Gains 31 yards on five touchesHull had four carries for 26 yards and caught his only target for five yards in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona.
ImpactHull was the second player to receive a carry for Indianapolis behind Tyler Goodson (6-35-1) despite taking reps ahead of his backfield mate during practice this week. Projected No. 2 back Trey Sermon remains sidelined with the hamstring injury he suffered in the Colts' preseason opener, upgrading the battle for third on the depth chart to a competition to be Jonathan Taylor's primary backup. Hull, Goodson and possibly Zavier Scott (11-55-1) may compete for multiple spots on the roster heading into the final week of the exhibition schedule.
