Quintez Cephus - Remains sidelinedCephus (leg) did not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Colts, Benjamin Raven of MLive.com reports.
ImpactCephus went down with an unspecified leg injury during the start of training camp, and it doesn't sound like he has made it back to the field yet. This extended delay has been bad news for his odds of sticking around in a suddenly crowded Detroit receiver room, let alone pushing Josh Reynolds for the No. 3 role at receiver while Jameson Williams (knee) returns to full health. It hasn't helped that Cephus' absence opened snaps for Tom Kennedy to put together a highly productive preseason. If Cephus can't make it back for the team's preseason finale next Sunday against the Steelers, he may not have much of a case for a potential fifth or sixth roster spot depending on whether Williams starts the year on the PUP list.

James Mitchell - Makes preseason debutMitchell secured both of his targets for nine yards during Saturday's preseason win over the Colts.
ImpactBouncing back from a torn ACL he suffered last year at Virginia Tech, Mitchell made his professional debut after the Lions cautiously held him out of the preseason opener. Altogether, he saw 23 offensive snaps and was able to get open for a couple of receptions. While the fifth-round rookie is no higher than No. 3 on the depth chart behind T.J. Hockenson and Brock Wright, the investment Detroit made in Mitchell could give him the leg up on Devin Funchess (shoulder) and Shane Zylstra for a roster spot.

Devin Funchess - Out with shoulder injuryFunchess (shoulder) did not play in Saturday's preseason win over the Colts, Benjamin Raven of MLive.com reports.
ImpactFunchess hurt his shoulder in Wednesday's practice, and an extended absence probably will damage the strong case he had been making for a roster spot. It remains to be seen whether or not he can return to the field in advance of the Lions' preseason finale next Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Kalif Raymond - Brief preseason appearanceRaymond caught two of three targets for 10 yards during Saturday's preseason win over Indianapolis.
ImpactAfter catching a bomb from Tim Boyle in the preseason opener, Raymond saw a little bit of action in the first quarter this week. Given how quickly it took for his day to be done, Raymond seems like the clear No. 4 receiver for the Lions behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds. While Jameson Williams (knee) will be in the fold before long and Quintez Cephus (leg) could make a case for a roster spot in the preseason finale, Raymond seems ticketed for another year in Detroit, where he likely will handle punt-return duties in addition to his rotational role at wideout.

Godwin Igwebuike - Finds end zoneIgwebuike rushed seven times for 32 yards with one touchdown during Saturday's preseason win over the Colts.
ImpactIgwebuike was the fourth running back to rotate in behind Craig Reynolds, Justin Jackson and Jermar Jefferson. The one advantage that the converted safety may have over these guys is Igwebuike's ability on special teams, but that may not be enough for a roster spot this year.

Jermar Jefferson - Stock fallingJefferson rushed seven times for 25 yards during Saturday's preseason win over Indianapolis.
ImpactWith neither of D'Andre Swift or Jamaal Williams in action, Jefferson was third to rotate in at running back behind interim starter Craig Reynolds and Justin Jackson, who gained 54 yards on the same amount of carries as Jefferson. Each of these guys plus Godwin Igwebuike should get more opportunities to prove their work in the preseason finale next Sunday in Pittsburgh, but Jefferson seems to be headed in the wrong direction in advance of roster cuts.

Tyquan Lewis - Returns to game actionLewis (knee) had one tackle for a loss in Saturday's preseason loss to Detroit. It was his first game action since suffering a significant knee injury on Oct. 31 last season.
ImpactLewis has returned from a patellar tendon injury and looks back to full speed. He'll give the Colts needed depth on the defensive line. He had 6.5 sacks in his previous 24 games before the injury.
