Impact Following three solid seasons in San Francisco to start his career, Dwelley has demonstrated enough to earn an extension. The 26-year-old filled the No. 2 tight end role behind George Kittle in 2020 and played significant snaps during the latter's eight absences, catching 19 of his 24 targets for 245 yards and a touchdown.

Impact The 25-year-old began the year third on the depth chart behind star tight end George Kittle and newly acquired veteran Jordan Reed. Dwelley still saw an increase in both playing time (500 offensive snaps) and production after the rest of the tight end room dealt with injuries at various points during the season. Kittle is here to stay and Reed will be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, so the 49ers' decision regarding the latter will impact whether or not Dwelley will be extended past his expiring rookie contract for the 2021 season.

Impact Dwelley continues to start games for San Francisco while George Kittle (foot) remains on IR. The 25-year-old logged 46 offensive snaps (55 percent) compared to backup tight end Jordan Reed's 42 (50 percent), but the latter saw three extra targets and caught a touchdown pass. Reed is the more desirable fantasy asset due to his superior receiving capabilities, but neither is a must-start in standard fantasy formats heading into a Week 16 matchup with the Cardinals.

Impact Dwelley started and logged 36 offensive snaps (44 percent) compared to co-starter Jordan Reed's 33 snaps (41 percent). The 25-year-old finished with the most receiving yards of his position group for the first time since Week 9, highlighting his preferred usage as a blocker. Dwelley should continue to start in place of George Kittle, who remains sidelined with a foot injury, but Reed has the higher fantasy upside heading into Sunday's contest with the Cowboys.

Dwelley will continue to technically start for however long Kittle is sidelined, but Reed appears to be the tight end to chase fantasy points with on this club following the upcoming bye week.

The third-year tight end finished a distant second in receptions and receiving yards to Richie James, who exploded for a career-best 9-184-1 line. Kittle could well be out for the remainder of the regular season, so Dwelley could retain a solid role in a Week 10 battle against the Saints on Sunday, Nov. 15 while sharing snaps with Reed.
