Returns from COVID-19 list Washington activated Heinicke (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
Impact After spending the last six days in quarantine, Heinicke is no longer symptomatic of the virus and will rejoin the Football Team for practice Thursday, setting him up to reclaim starting duties Sunday in Dallas. While both Heinicke and top backup Kyle Allen (illness) were on the reserve/COVID-19 list Week 15, Garrett Gilbert stepped in for the start in Tuesday's 27-17 loss to the Eagles. If Allen isn't cleared before the Week 16 contest, Gilbert will serve as the backup to Heinicke, whose recent absence had the benefit of allowing him to heal up from the knee and elbow injuries he sustained in the first matchup with Dallas in Week 14.

Impact Neither Heinicke nor No. 2 signal-caller Kyle Allen (illness) was able to clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocols after both tested positive for the virus less than a week ago, so for at least one game, Washington will turn the offense over to Garrett Gilbert, who was signed off the Patriots' practice squad Friday. The Football Team will hope to get one of Heinicke or Gilbert back in advance of its Week 16 game against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Washington-Eagles moved to Tuesday Heinicke (illness) and Washington will no longer play the Eagles on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Impact Due to ongoing COVID-19-related issues within Washington's organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Football Team will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. Even with the delay, Heinicke, who was placed on the list Friday after testing positive for the virus, will face an uphill battle to clear the necessary protocols ahead of Tuesday's game. Top backup Kyle Allen was placed on the list Wednesday after a positive test and may stand a better chance of gaining clearance for Tuesday, but if neither he nor Heinicke are available, Washington will likely turn to the newly signed Garrett Gilbert or one of its two quarterbacks on the practice squad (Kyle Shurmur and Jordan Ta'amu) to make the Week 15 start.
