Clear of injury for finale Dye (concussion/hamstring) was a full practice participant Friday, and he carries no injury designation into Sunday's game against Detroit.

Impact Dye wasn't able to clear concussion protocol in time for Minnesota's Christmas Day matchup in New Orleans, but the fourth-round rookie is now officially ready to roll for Week 17. Three of the linebacker's five starts on the season have come over his past four appearances, with a September injury to Anthony Barr (pectoral) allowing for depth options to get more involved over the course of the year.

Impact Dye exited this past Sunday's loss to the Bears to be evaluated for a concussion, and he's indeed in the league's five-step concussion protocol. The 24-year-old linebacker is battling a hamstring injury, too. He's trending in the wrong direction to begin Week 16; there's a strong chance he's unavailable for Friday's matchup against the Saints. If that's the case, Ryan Connelly or Hardy Nickerson figure to slot in at weak-side linebacker.

Impact The 24-year-old had to be taken to the locker room in the second half of Sunday's game against the Bears, rendering his return questionable for the time being. The Oregon product has started two of Minnesota's past three games, collecting eight combined tackles on 59 defensive snaps since Week 12. Sunday against the Bears, he had already accumulated six tackles prior to his exit. Ryan Connelly will fill the void at weakside linebacker as long as Dye is sidelined, with Minnesota attempting to orchestrate a second-half comeback.

Impact Dye played just 25 of the defense's 75 snaps as he comes off the field in nickel and dime packages. He won't put up strong tackle totals as a result. Dye could lose his starting job to Todd Davis once he's back to full strength after testing positive for COVID-19.

Dye -- a rookie fourth-round pick -- has played just 21 defensive snaps so far, so there could be growing pains Sunday against the Packers.

Impact After four games on the sidelines and a bye week, Dye will start preparing to return from IR. His first chance to get back into the lineup is this Sunday against the Packers, but that likely will depend on how the rookie fourth-rounder progresses during the practice week. With Anthony Barr (pectoral) out for the season, no Viking has claimed the starting strong-side linebacker job yet, so Dye has an opportunity to carve out a meaningful role upon his return to the lineup. There will be competition from Todd Davis, Hardy Nickerson and Ryan Connelly, however, and the most likely scenario is a committee until one separates from the pack.
