Justin Herbert - X-rays come up negativeChargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that X-Rays on Herbert's right leg are negative, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ImpactHarbaugh said Los Angeles will know more about Herbert's status as the week progresses, but for now it's encouraging that the franchise quarterback has at least avoided a fracture. It's worth noting that Monday's imaging results don't dismiss the possibility of a soft-tissue injury for Herbert, who got rolled up in the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Panthers but quickly managed to retake the field. The Chargers have Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke available behind Herbert heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Steelers.

Andy Dalton - Becomes starting quarterbackThe Panthers will start Dalton versus the Raiders in Week 3 and send 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young to the bench, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ImpactDalton will get an opportunity to see whether he can spark Carolina's offense, which added wideouts Diontae Johnson and rookie first-round pick Xavier Legette over the offseason, with the hope of improving things alongside incumbent Adam Thielen. In two games this season Young threw just 245 passing yards combined, plus three interceptions, with a miserable 3.2 yards per pass attempt Week 2 versus the Chargers. Dalton's starting tenure will begin with a tough Week 3 road matchup against Las Vegas, but if he can stabilize things on offense for the 0-2 Panthers, the 36-year-old veteran could have a clear path to retaining the No. 1 gig for the remainder of the 2024 season.
