Jaden Crumedy - Verge of returnCrumedy (ankle) is expected to be designated to return from injured reserve this week, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ImpactCrumedy was placed on IR before the season started and has missed the mandatory four games. His designation to return will allow him to return to practice with the team, but that doesn't guarantee he'll return to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears. More clarity on his potential return will likely have to wait until later in the week.

Ian Thomas - Nearing returnThomas (calf) is expected to be designated to return from injured reserve this week, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThomas has missed the minimum four games and is now eligible to return to action. Once he is officially designated to return, he'll be able to practice with the team, but that doesn't guarantee he'll return this Sunday against the Bears. More clarity on his status for the matchup will likely come later in the week.

ImpactJackson was placed on IR before the start of the season and has missed the minimum four games of action. More clarity on his potential return will likely have to wait until later in the week.

D.J. Wonnum - Not ready yet to returnWonnum (quadriceps) will remain on the reserve/PUP list this week, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.
ImpactWonnum is officially able to be designated to return, after missing the minimum four games, but isn't quite healthy enough to do so yet. Quick notes that the South Carolina product is in the "final stages" of returning but has a couple of hurdles to clear before doing so.

Jonathon Brooks - Practice window won't open yetPanthers head coach Dave Canales said Monday that the team won't designate Brooks (knee) to return to practice this week, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ImpactBrooks started the regular season on the non-football injury list, which makes Week 5 his earliest possible return date, but Carolina won't yet designate the rookie second-round pick to resume practicing. Per Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340, Canales said Brooks is in the "final stages" of his recovery from a right ACL tear sustained in his final collegiate season at Texas, and which prevented him from taking part in the Panthers' offseason program. Once designated to return, a 21-day practice window will open for Brooks, and with Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders both currently running well, the Panthers have little need to hurry the rookie along.

Shaq Thompson - Season-ending injury confirmThe Panthers have confirmed Thompson suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Sundayh's loss to the Bengals, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ImpactThompson's injury news was expected, but that doesn't make it any easier for the 2015 first-round selection, nor the Carolina franchise. Although early in the campaign, the 30-year-old was on pace to record the highest total tackle amount of his career and was the leader of the Panthers' defense. In his absence, Claudin Cherelus and Trevin Wallace will be asked to step up at inside linebacker.
SEPTEMBER 30•ROTOWIRE
Jaycee Horn - Impresses again in Week 4Horn recorded eight total tackles (seven solo), including one tackle for loss, while also defending one pass during Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Bengals.
ImpactHorn allowed just four receptions for 33 yards while also finishing second on the Panthers in total tackles during Sunday's loss. The 2021 first-round pick is tied for first on Carolina in interceptions (one) and ranks second in passes defended (three) through four games. He's expected to remain the team's top cornerback in Week 5 as the Panthers travel to Chicago.
