Steelers' promising start hits a speedbump in a mistake-filled loss at Indianapolis

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their promising start hit a mistake-filled speedbump in a loss to Indianapolis
SEPTEMBER 30ASSOCIATED PRESS
Chris Boswell - Perfect in lossBoswell converted his lone field-goal attempt while making all three of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts.
ImpactBoswell put the Steelers on the board Sunday with a 50-yard field goal to close out the first half, and he's now gone 5-for-6 on attempts from 50-plus yards over the first four weeks of the regular season. The 33-year-old was also perfect on extra-point tries once again. He's been a reliable option early in 2024, making 11 of 12 field-goal attempts while converting all six of his extra-point tries.
SEPTEMBER 30ROTOWIRE
Darnell Washington - Logs two receptions in Week 4Washington secured both of his targets for 31 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts.
ImpactWashington didn't have more than five receiving yards in any of the first three games of the season, but he tallied double-digit yards on both of his receptions during Sunday's defeat. He still didn't see as much work as starting tight end Pat Freiermuth, who secured five of seven targets for 57 yards and a touchdown. Although Washington looked good when he had the ball in his hands Sunday, he hasn't yet carved out a high enough target share to make him a reliable fantasy option.
SEPTEMBER 30ROTOWIRE
Calvin Austin III - Held to one catch in defeatAustin secured his lone target for 17 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to Indianapolis.
ImpactAustin tallied a career-high 95 receiving yards during last week's win over the Chargers, but he didn't see as much work during Sunday's Week 4 defeat. Despite his encouraging performance in Week 3, Austin has been limited to just one catch in three of the first four games of the regular season, and hasn't yet established himself as a consistent fantasy option.
SEPTEMBER 30ROTOWIRE
Van Jefferson - Racks up 21 yards in lossJefferson secured two of three targets for 21 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts.
ImpactJefferson didn't see much playing time in last week's win over the Chargers due to an eye injury, but he was on the field for 86 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps Sunday, tied with George Pickens for the most among the team's receivers. However, Jefferson hasn't seen a significant target share, as he hasn't been targeted more than three times in any of the team's first four games. While Jefferson's playing time has been encouraging, he hasn't yet established himself as a fantasy-relevant option in the Steelers' lackluster offensive attack.
SEPTEMBER 30ROTOWIRE
Matt Gay - Misses one in winGay made all three of his extra-point tries but missed one of his three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers.
ImpactGay connected on FGAs of 33 and 35 yards, but missed a 54-yard attempt in the third quarter that would have given the Colts a 20-3 lead. The Utah product is now 0-for-2 from 50-plus yards on the season, but he is 7-for-7 on PATs.
SEPTEMBER 30ROTOWIRE
James Daniels - Suffers season-ending injuryDaniels suffered an Achilles tear in Sunday's loss to the Colts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ImpactDaniels will now miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign to recover from the injury, and the Steelers will be without their starter at right guard since the 2022 season. Spencer Anderson, who filled in after Daniel's left against Indianapolis, will likely continue filling in at the position moving forward.
