Fruitful stretch run for Broncos relies on running game, defense and creating turnovers

The Denver Broncos are 5-4 at the midpoint of their season

Jonathon Cooper - Inks extension with DenverThe Broncos signed Cooper to a four-year, $60 million extension over the weekend, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ImpactA 2021 seventh-round pick from Ohio State, Cooper was set to hit free agency after the season before inking an extension with the Broncos over the weekend. Cooper has been a disruptive pass rusher over the past two years in Denver, recording 107 total tackles, including 14.0 sacks, and forcing two fumbles across 26 regular-season appearances. He's now expected to continue serving as the Broncos' top edge rusher and remain an integral part of the team's defense for years to come.

Jaleel McLaughlin - Eight touches against BaltimoreMcLaughlin carried the ball five times for 10 yards and caught all three of his targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Ravens.
ImpactMcLaughlin played the No. 2 running back role Sunday, playing 23 of the Broncos' 72 offensive snaps while starter Javonte Williams played 39 snaps in the contest. Through nine weeks, the 24-year-old McLaughlin is averaging just under six rushing attempts and roughly 23 yards per game. The second-year running back has not seen enough consistent involvement in Denver's offense to make him an attractive option for fantasy purposes. In addition, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports that Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Monday that rookie Audric Estime could see his role increase as the season progresses. Assuming that this comes to fruition, it would almost undoubtedly lead to even fewer opportunities for McLaughlin down the stretch. In what could become an even messier situation in the Denver backfield, the 24-year-old should not be trusted for fantasy purposes heading into a Week 10 matchup against the Chiefs.

Lil'Jordan Humphrey - Minimal production in lossHumphrey caught two of five targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Ravens.
ImpactHumphrey played 35 of the Broncos' 72 offensive snaps Sunday, finishing second in wide receiver snaps behind Courtland Sutton (61). Additionally, the veteran wideout also earned the second-most targets behind Sutton while operating as the team's No. 2 receiver. Humphrey is having an underwhelming 2024 campaign, recording just 21 receptions for 188 yards through nine games. The 26-year-old should not be trusted for fantasy purposes as the Broncos visit the Chiefs in Week 10.

Troy Franklin - One grab in Week 9Franklin caught one of four targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Ravens.
ImpactFranklin finished Sunday's game third in targets behind fellow wideouts Courtland Sutton (10) and Lil'Jordan Humphrey (5). Unfortunately, the rookie receiver was only able to reel in one pass from quarterback Bo Nix. Though Nix and Franklin have begun to develop their chemistry in the NFL after playing together at Oregon, the pair will likely continue to be inconsistent as the Broncos' offense goes through growing pains during the 2024 campaign. Franklin will look to bounce back in Week 10, albeit in a tough matchup against the division-rival Chiefs.

Devaughn Vele - Quiet against RavensVele secured two of his three targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Ravens.
ImpactVele has earned three targets for the third-straight game, yet he continued to struggle to make much of his opportunities. In five games, the rookie wideout is averaging under four receptions per game for roughly 35 yards per contest. Vele played 29 of the Broncos' 72 offensive snaps Sunday, tied for third amongst wide receivers with fellow rookie Troy Franklin. The 26-year-old should continue to struggle for fantasy purposes as Denver's No. 4 receiver when the Broncos visit the Chiefs in Week 10.
