Alex Ovechkin - Practices WednesdayOvechkin (lower body) participated in Wednesday's full practice, per Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press.
ImpactCoach Spencer Carbery described Ovechkin's work Wednesday as a "positive step." The Capitals star forward has missed Washington's last three games and his status for Thursday's contest against St. Louis remains undetermined. Ovechkin has eight goals and 27 points in 39 outings this season. When he's ready to return, he should serve on the top line and first power-play unit.

Ethan Bear - First goal of season a game-winnerBear scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over the Ducks.
ImpactPlaying in his ninth game as a Capital, Bear got free in the faceoff circle to the right of John Gibson and pounced on a rebound late in the first period. It was the 26-year-old blueliner's first goal in almost exactly a calendar year, as his last came with the Canucks on Jan. 15, 2023 in Carolina. Bear has seen a consistent shift since joining the Washington roster in late December, but he could be the player bumped when Rasmus Sandin (upper body) gets healthy.

Darcy Kuemper - Blanks Ducks for first shutoutKuemper turned aside all 24 shots he faced in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Anaheim.
ImpactIt's the first shutout of the season for Kuemper, and the first time he's allowed less than three goals in a start since Dec. 20. With Charlie Lindgren healthy, Kuemper has fallen to the No. 2 spot on the Capitals' depth chart in net, but if he can string together a few good outings in a row, he could push his way into a timeshare. Kuemper's 3.13 GAA and .895 save percentage on the season are far from encouraging, however.

John Gibson - Out-dueled by KuemperGibson stopped 26 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Capitals.
ImpactWashington's final goal was scored into an empty net. Gibson came through with one of his best performances of the season, but the Ducks' offense couldn't solve Darcy Kuemper. Tuesday marked the second time this season Gibson has allowed just one goal and still taken the loss -- he got downed 2-0 by the Penguins as well in early November. Good performances have been few and far between for the veteran netminder this season though, and since Christmas he's stumbled to a 2-5-0 record in seven starts with a 3.68 GAA and .888 save percentage.
