Handed five-game suspension Gallagher received a five-game suspension Friday for elbowing the Islanders' Adam Pelech (upper body) in the head during Thursday's game.
Impact Gallagher has eight goals, 16 points, 103 shots, 37 PIM, 37 hits and 20 blocks in 48 appearances this season. He will be eligible to return Feb. 15 for a contest against the Rangers. Pelech, who has a concussion history, left Thursday's game and didn't return. While Gallagher serves his punishment, Jesse Ylonen might play regularly.

Headed for suspension Gallagher will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Friday for an illegal check to the head.
Impact Gallagher's elbow in Thursday's clash with the Islanders saw Adam Pelech (upper body) leave the game and not return. At a minimum, the 31-year-old Gallagher figures to be suspended against Pittsburgh on Saturday, though it could certainly be longer given there was an injury on the play.

Impact Gallagher snapped a four-game point drought when he helped out on Alex Newhook's opening tally at 5:59 of the first period. The Canadiens continue to shuffle their lines around, and it was Gallagher's turn to start the contest on the first line Wednesday. He finished with 16:18 of ice time, his second-highest total of the campaign. The winger has nine points, 44 shots on net, 12 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-11 rating through 19 appearances.

Whistled for costly penalty Gallagher had one shot on goal, one hit and four penalty minutes in Thursday's 6-5 loss to Vegas.
Impact Gallagher was a non-factor for much of the game, but his double-minor with just under three minutes left was the biggest moment of the game. The Golden Knights scored power-play goals on each end of the double minor to take a 6-4 lead. This was the second consecutive game in which Gallagher took a penalty late with the game on the line. He also had a third-period hooking call that gave the the Bruins a 5-on-3 advantage last Saturday, but Montreal survived that and won in overtime. Gallagher, who has 10 PIM over the last five games, is third on the team with 18 PIM.

Injuries over the last several seasons have taken a toll on Gallagher, who hasn't played more than 59 games since 2018; however, the rejuvenated, 31-year-old forward is enjoying a productive start. He has five goals, eight points and 35 shots while skating on the third line through 14 games. Gallagher also gets TOI on the second-unit power play.
