East-leading Devils face another extended stint without best player Jack Hughes

The New Jersey Devils are atop the Eastern Conference six weeks into the NHL season, but now they have to play the next two months without top center and leading scorer Jack Hughes

Moved to long-term injured reserve Pesce (upper body) was moved from regular IR to long-term injured reserve Saturday, per PuckPedia.
Impact Pesce hasn't played since Oct. 26, and he's not believed to be close to returning, so his timetable hasn't necessarily changed. The Devils do gain some cap flexibility by putting him on LTIR. Pesce has three assists, two PIM, four hits and 24 blocks in nine appearances this year.

Devils activate C Cody Glass from injured reserve, F Connor Brown still out

New Jersey Devils center Cody Glass returned to the lineup Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens, and forward Connor Brown remained out
NOVEMBER 7 • Associated Press
On injured reserve Pesce (upper body) was put on injured reserve Thursday.
Impact Pesce hasn't played since Oct. 26, and he's not expected to return until late November, so this move doesn't alter his timetable. However, the Devils needed the roster spot to activate Cody Glass (upper body) off IR in a corresponding move. Pesce will likely serve in a top-four capacity once he's healthy, but the 30-year-old isn't a significant offensive contributor -- he has 33 points in 151 regular-season games from 2023-24 through 2025-26 -- and he consequently doesn't factor into many fantasy teams.
NOVEMBER 6 • ROTOWIRE
Out for at least one month Pesce (upper body) is expected to be out for at least a month, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Tuesday.
Impact Pesce sustained the injury in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over Colorado. He has contributed three assists, eight shots on goal, 24 blocked shots and four hits in nine appearances this season. With Pesce unavailable, Simon Nemec should see an increased role, while Seamus Casey will be in the lineup against the Avalanche on Tuesday.

Impact Pesce entered Sunday's game with three assists, eight shots on net, 23 blocked shots and four hits in eight appearances. Dennis Cholowski could play against the Avalanche in Tuesday's rematch, but the Devils may bring up reinforcements from AHL Utica for the trip.

Nabs assist in 700th game Pesce produced an assist and three blocked shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Impact Pesce was able to get on the scoresheet in his 700th career game. The 30-year-old also played the milestone contest against his former team. He was limited by an undisclosed injury during the preseason, but he logged 21:42 of ice time to lead all Devils defensemen in this contest, indicating he is fine for a full workload. The 30-year-old has limited fantasy upside, as he's missed the 20-point mark in consecutive seasons and doesn't pile up hits or PIM in high quantities, though he has blocked at least 100 shots in a season in six of his first 10 campaigns.

Expected to play Thursday Pesce (undisclosed) is good to play in New Jersey's season opener against Carolina on Thursday, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site on Wednesday.
Impact Pesce had three goals, 17 points, 29 PIM, 24 hits and 138 blocks in 72 regular-season outings with the Devils in 2024-25. He should open the season in a top-four capacity, but Pesce isn't expected to have a role with the man advantage.

Skating Friday Pesce (undisclosed) will skate on his own Friday and is questionable for Opening Night on Oct. 8, per Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site.
Impact Pesce was injured Thursday and he is continuing to be evaluated by doctors. The defenseman had three goals and 14 assists with 138 blocked shots in 72 regular-season appearances last season.
OCTOBER 3 • ROTOWIRE
Exits early Thursday Pesce sustained an undisclosed injury Thursday versus the Rangers and is undergoing further evaluation, Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site reports.
Impact Pesce didn't play in the third period of Thursday's preseason contest. The 30-year-old defenseman can be considered day-to-day for now, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Devils held him out of Saturday's preseason finale versus the Flyers.

Played through shoulder problem Pesce was fighting through a shoulder injury during the playoffs, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Thursday.
Impact Pesce didn't miss any game action despite being a game-time decision heading into Game 5 on Tuesday. The blueliner picked up two assists in that contest, bringing him to three in five postseason contests. During the regular season, Pesce notched three goals and 14 helpers but missed the 20-point threshold for the second consecutive season. While Pesce offers some value in blocks (138), he doesn't offer enough broad category coverage to be more than a mid-range option in most fantasy leagues.
MAY 1 • ROTOWIRE
Two helpers in Game 5 loss Pesce notched two assists, two shots on goal and four blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Impact Pesce was questionable heading into the game but ultimately suited up for 32:17 of ice time. The defenseman put up three assists, eight shots on net, 18 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over five playoff contests. Pesce just finished the first season of a six-year contract, so he's set to be part of the Devils' defensive core for the remainder of the decade.
