Full practice participant Malenstyn (illness) completed a full practice Monday, clearing the way for him to suit up against the Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Impact Malenstyn looks poised to return to action for the first time since Jan. 4 versus the Golden Knights, a stretch of three games on the shelf due to his illness. In his first season with the Sabres, the 26-year-old center has recorded four goals and four assists and is behind his 2023-24 pace when he notched 21 goals in 81 outings with the Capitals.

Impact Lafferty gave the Sabres a positive start with a goal 2:37 into the contest. The winger hadn't scored since Nov. 7, a span of 18 games in which he had just two assists, though he also missed 10 contests due to a lower-body injury in that span. When healthy, Lafferty has been a bottom-six fixture for the Sabres. He has contributed just four points with 24 shots on net, 47 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-2 rating over 32 appearances. The Sabres have deployed seven defensemen in back-to-back contests, and having just 11 forwards in the lineup could open up a little extra playing time for Lafferty if head coach Lindy Ruff stick with that composition.

Three goals in last two games Quinn scored a goal Saturday in a 6-2 loss to Seattle.
Impact It came on the power play, and it extended his goal streak to two games and three snipes. Quinn has struggled to take a big step forward this season, but that's likely a function of the struggles the entire team has felt and not an indicator of his ability. Quinn has 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) and 64 shots in 36 games. He set a career mark as a rookie in 2022-23 with 14 goals and 23 points in 75 games.

Impact He had five shots and two hits. Dahlin, who has 31 points in 35 games this season, extended his assist streak to five games (five assists) for the fifth time in his career. That passes John Van Boxmeer (four) for the second-most such streaks by a defenseman in Sabres history, behind leader Phil Housley (nine). Dahlen has gone 14 games without a goal. He does have six snipes and 99 shots in 35 games, and he will likely crack the double-digit goal mark. But Dahlen won't come close to his career mark of 20 snipes and 235 shots, both set last season. Still, he's cruising at close to a point-per-game, so we'll gladly put him over the boards every chance we can.

Impact The Sabres fell apart after going up 2-0, and UPL had a rough night. He'd like to have a couple of those goals back. Luukkonen was coming off a 35-save shutout over Ottawa on Thursday, and he had won two straight. He's certainly talented, but playing behind the Sabres right now is an exercise in frustration for both him and fantasy managers.

Impact Peterka has 14 points, including 12 assists, and 27 shots in his last 13 games. He has 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists) and 86 shots in 41 games this season, and his 11.6 shooting percentage is right around his career mark of 11.4. While he's on pace for a new career high in points, Peterka needs to increase his shot volume dramatically to come close to the 226 he put up last season when he scored 28 times. He's a sniper, so the goals will go up when the shots go up.
