Tim Berni - Released from PTO Berni was released from his professional tryout agreement with Columbus on Thursday, per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch.
Impact Berni had a goal, three points and 34 PIM in 59 contests with Columbus last season. The 23-year-old was in a unique position because he's a restricted free agent whose negotiating rights are controlled by the Blue Jackets, but unlike most RFAs, Berni decided to participate in training camp anyway by inking a professional tryout. Now that he's been released from the tryout, he'll need to either agree to a contract with the Blue Jackets or sign an offer sheet with another team in order to play in the NHL this season.

Aaron Dell - Released from PTO The Blue Jackets released Dell from his professional tryout Thursday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Impact Dell played four games with the Sharks last season, going 0-3-0 with a 2.71 GAA and .913 save percentage. He could have a tough time finding another job at the NHL level at the age of 34.

Zach Werenski - Looking for first preseason point Werenski has zero points and 14 shots on goal through four preseason contests, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Impact The blueliner missed most of last season due to a shoulder injury he sustained in early November, and he hasn't been able to shake off all the rust yet in training camp. "Certain things are harder than I thought they'd be," Werenski said after Wednesday's game against the Sabres. "Like going back on pucks, plays I'm usually really good at. Finding the middle guy (on the breakout), holding it an extra second and finding the seam (pass to a forward). Those plays, I feel like I'm not seeing them yet." The Blue Jackets are counting on Werenski to return to the form that saw him rack up 11 goals and 48 points over only 68 games in 2021-22, but fantasy GMs shouldn't be surprised if the 26-year-old has a slow start to the campaign, and there's no guarantee he stays healthy this season, either -- he hasn't played a full schedule since 2018-19.

Jake Bean - Ready to return Bean (shoulder) is expected to play in Wednesday's preseason game against Buffalo.
Impact Bean will make his 2023 exhibition debut after being out with an abductor strain since the beginning of training camp. He produced six points, 16 shots on goal, 21 blocked shots and 13 hits in 14 games with the Blue Jackets last season. Bean is competing for a depth spot on the roster going into the 2023-24 campaign.

Damon Severson - Two helpers Monday Severson collected two assists in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.
Impact Picked up from the Devils in the offseason to bolster the Blue Jackets' blue line, Severson is in line for major minutes in Columbus, although he'll be behind the likes of Zach Werenski and Adam Boqvist for power-play time. Neither one was in the lineup Monday however, allowing Severson to flash the skills that led to 11 goals and 46 points in 80 games two seasons ago. Expect the 29-year-old to deliver something more like the seven goals and 33 points in 81 games that he produced in 2022-23 during his first campaign with the Jackets.

Alexandre Texier - Strong preseason continues Texier picked up an assist in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.
Impact It's been a tough couple years off the ice for the 24-year-old -- Texier played in France last season to be closer to his family -- but he's back in North America and is getting a long look in a top-six role during training camp. Texier scored 11 goals and 20 points in 36 games during his last NHL action in 2021-22, and while he likely won't be a dynamic offensive asset this season even on a top line, he could be defensively responsible glue guy alongside a Patrik Laine or Adam Fantilli.

Johnny Gaudreau - Ices preseason win Gaudreau scored an empty-net goal in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.
Impact The 30-year-old is locked into a top-six role for the Blue Jackets this season and a spot on the top power-play unit while acting as a mentor for young talent like 2023 third overall pick Adam Fantilli. Gaudreau's coming off a somewhat disappointing first campaign in Columbus, managing 21 goals and 74 points in 80 games, but he's proven during his time in Calgary he has a much higher ceiling -- if he has the talent around him to reach it. If the Jackets' other star players like Patrik Laine and Zach Werenski can stay healthy and prospects like Fantilli are ready to make an impact, Gaudreau could shine once again.

Jet Greaves - Solid in preseason win Greaves stopped 36 of 39 shots in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.
Impact The 22-year-old netminder played the whole game and gave up only one even-strength goal, but the workload isn't a sign he's making a real push for an NHL job to begin the season. The Blue jackets want Greaves to be their No. 1 at AHL Cleveland, and scooping Spencer Martin off the waiver wire last week was a way to ensure the organization had the depth at goalie to stick to that plan. With Daniil Tarasov (knee) still working his way back into form, however, it might only take one more injury for Greaves to be needed at the NHL level.

Impact The 19-year-old Jiricek is one of the top blue line prospects in hockey, but he's also still eligible to be sent to AHL Cleveland without needing to clear waivers, so he's no lock to be on the NHL roster Opening Night. The sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft seems to be making a strong push in camp for a job though, and after collecting six goals and 38 points in 55 games for Cleveland last season, Jiricek could be ready for the next challenge.
