Elvis Merzlikins - Facing Blackhawks Merzlikins will be in the visiting net in Chicago on Saturday, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Impact Merzlikins has looked good in his last two starts, going 1-1-0 while giving up only four goals on 68 shots. Overall, the 29-year-old netminder is 11-13-7 with a 3.25 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Merzlikins will face the Blackhawks, who are averaging only 2.03 goals, the worst in the NHL.

Alex Nylander - Bright spot in Thursday's loss Nylander scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
Impact Playing his third game since being acquired from the Penguins in the Emil Bemstrom deal, Nylander collected his first points as a Blue Jacket and scored his second career power-play tally in the third period with a shot that eluded Spencer Martin. The talent that made Nylander the eighth overall pick in the 2016 Draft has never shown up consistently in the NHL, but it appears as though he'll get a long look in a prominent role with the Jackets.

Daniil Tarasov - Sunk by Canes Tarasov turned aside 28 of 31 shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Carolina, with the Hurricanes' final goal coming into an empty net.
Impact The 24-year-old netminder kept Carolina off the board in the first period, but once Teuvo Teravainen snuck a soft one past Tarasov just 53 seconds into the second period, things got away from Columbus. He's lost four of his last five starts, posting a 3.17 GAA and .901 save percentage over that stretch, and while the Jackets will keep him in the mix, Tarasov isn't putting much pressure on Elvis Merzlikins for the No. 1 job.

Daniil Tarasov - Slated to face Hurricanes Tarasov is expected to start at home versus Carolina on Thursday, per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site.
Impact Tarasov has a 4-7-2 record, 3.65 GAA and .887 save percentage in 13 outings in 2023-24. He saved 35 of 37 shots in his last start Friday but was charged with the loss due to insufficient goal support. Carolina is tied for 12th offensively with 3.27 goals per game, so this is likely to be a challenging assignment for Tarasov.

Impact Texier missed the Blue Jackets' past two games due to the illness. He has eight goals and 18 points in 54 outings in 2023-24. Texier's return will help fill the void left by Kent Johnson, who is out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury.

Kent Johnson - Sidelined indefinitely Johnson will be out indefinitely with an upper-body injury, the Jackets announced Thursday.
Impact The club didn't provide a significant update on Johnson's timeline but the fact that it used the term indefinitely certainly doesn't bode well for a short-term absence. The 21-year-old center is currently mired in a 19-game goal drought during which he managed just three assists and 29 shots while averaging 13:35 of ice time. Unless Alexandre Texier (illness) is ready to play, the Jackets will need to recall a forward from AHL Cleveland ahead of Thursday's clash with Carolina.

Cole Sillinger - Scores team's lone goal in loss Sillinger scored a goal on four shots, blocked three shots and added three hits in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Rangers.
Impact Sillinger gave Columbus some hope when he scored on a rebound after Igor Shesterkin gave the puck away behind the Rangers' net in the third period, but the Blue Jackets were unable to solve Shesterkin the rest of the night. The goal was Sillinger's ninth, and the 20-year-old forward is up to 21 points through 53 games, putting him on pace to finish right around his rookie season total of 31 points from 2021-22.
