Elvis Merzlikins - Exits Friday's contest Merzlikins (undisclosed) left after the first period of Friday's game against Toronto, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Impact Merzlikins coughed up two goals on 14 shots in the first period but was not seen on the bench to begin the second after being replaced by Spencer Martin. The Blue Jackets are back in action Saturday against Buffalo. An update on Merzlikins should be available before that game.

Impact Now that he's on IR, Werenski will miss Columbus' next three games at a minimum. However, according to coach Pascal Vincent, the defender is "more likely week-to-week than day-to-day", per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site, suggesting Werenski will likely miss more than three contests with his lower-body issue. David Jiricek could be elevated to a top-pairing role during Werenski's absence.

Elvis Merzlikins - Facing Maple Leafs Merzlikins will be between the home pipes versus Toronto on Friday, according to Columbus beat reporter Coby Maeir.
Impact Merzlikins has seen a lot of pucks in his last five starts, stopping 179 of 197 shots. He is 2-0-3 in the month of December, raising his record to 7-8-6 with a 3.20 GAA and .907 save percentage. The Maple Leafs are averaging 32.7 shots on goal per game, sixth in the league.

Impact Merzlikins avoided a regulation loss for a fifth consecutive start, but he'll be disappointed that he failed to close out the win, as Luke Hughes tied the game with 1:25 left in regulation before Timo Meier ended it in overtime. The Latvian netminder's 2-0-3 record in his last five starts has moved his overall mark to 7-8-6, and Merzlikins' 3.20 GAA and .907 save percentage aren't far from his career 3.14 and .906 marks, so a drastic change in performance is unlikely moving forward barring a change of scenery.
