Impact Mermis underwent jaw surgery in late September and will miss the first several weeks of the regular season while he recovers. He was expected to compete for a depth spot on Toronto's blueline prior to his procedure, but he could be forced to spend time in the minors when he's back to full health. The 30-year-old made a career-high 47 appearances in the NHL with the Wild last year, totaling three goals, 59 blocked shots and 45 hits while averaging 14:05 of ice time.
