Obtained in trade Dallas acquired Ellis and a 2026 seventh-round pick from Toronto on Saturday in exchange for the negotiation rights of Chris Tanev.

Impact Ellis, a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights, earned four goals and 14 points in 36 games with AHL Toronto during the 2023-24 campaign. The 24-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet. Assuming he signs with the Stars, he will probably start next season in the minors.

Re-signs with Dallas Petrovic signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Stars on Friday, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.

Impact The veteran defenseman played only one regular-season game with the Stars this season -- the first NHL action he had seen since the 2018-19 campaign, when he played 35 games split between Edmonton and Florida. The Stars used Petrovic in seven playoff games this season and while he was unable to pick up a point, he managed 14 hits and four blocked shots.

Set for buyout Suter will be bought out of the last year of his contract by the Stars, Jeff Marek of Sportsnet reports Thursday.

Impact Suter is still on the books for the Wild after they previously bought out his contract and will now potentially be costing three different clubs cap space -- assuming he signs elsewhere when the free-agent window opens Monday. During his three-year stint with the Stars, the veteran defenseman played all 246 regular-season games in which he tallied 12 goals and 62 assists. Given his age, the Madison, Wisconsin native could also opt to hang up his skates rather than extend his career.

Impact Back collected seven goals and 36 points in 59 regular-season contests for AHL Texas in 2023-24. The 24-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet. Back will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

Impact Blumel had 31 goals and 62 points in 72 regular-season contests with AHL Texas in 2023-24. He also provided five goals and nine points in seven playoff games with the minor-league squad. He was eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer after completing his entry-level contract.

Dealing with tendon injury Tanev is recovering from a tendon injury, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports Friday.

Impact Tanev had two goals, 19 points, 24 PIM, 45 hits and 207 blocks in 75 regular-season outings between Calgary and Dallas in 2023-24. He also recorded two assists, 30 hits and 73 blocks across 19 playoff contests with the Stars. The 34-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July, so depending on the severity of his injury, it might complicate his contract negotiations over the summer.

Recovering from knee injury Hakanpaa's lower-body injury is a knee issue that required an arthroscopic procedure, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports Friday.

Impact Hakanpaa didn't play past March 16 because of the injury. He had two goals, 12 points, 33 PIM, 196 hits and 123 blocks in 64 regular-season outings in 2023-24. Although there isn't a specific timetable for Hakanpaa's recovery, he's not expected to need further knee procedures.

Impact Pettersen had 38 points in 66 AHL contests last season, but the 24-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut. He was dealt from the Flames to the Stars in a minor-league trade for Riley Damiani in March. Pettersen was a sixth-round pick in 2018 and could compete for an NHL depth role in training camp this fall.

Impact While Pavelski didn't say outright that he was retiring from professional hockey, he acknowledged in his postseason exit interviews that he had known for a while that the 2023-24 season would be his last in the NHL. The second-oldest player in the NHL this past season, Pavelski remained a productive source of offense for Dallas, notching 27 goals and 40 assists while playing in all 82 contests. Before joining Dallas as a free agent in 2019, Pavelski served as a longtime captain for San Jose and represented the club in two All-Star Games. He added two more All-Star appearances to his ledger during his five seasons in Dallas and finishes his career with 476 goals and 592 assists over 1,332 regular-season games.
