Vasily Ponomarev - Unlikely to suit up ThursdayPonomarev (upper body) isn't expected to play Thursday against Columbus.

ImpactPonomarev is considered day-to-day due to an upper-body injury, and he'll be unable to suit up in the penultimate game of the regular season. He's had a strong preseason, but his injury could hinder his case for a spot on the Opening Night roster. His final chance to play during the preseason will be in a rematch against the Blue Jackets on Friday.

ImpactKral missed some exhibition action after being injured Sept. 24 during a preseason game against Buffalo. He'll probably start the 2024-25 campaign in the minors, but there's a chance he'll get promoted during the season. He had five goals and 37 points in 46 appearances with the Pelicans in Finland's top league in 2023-24.

ImpactGauthier has been dealing with an undisclosed injury since the start of camp, and his final chance to suit up during the preseason will be Friday against Columbus. However, if he's healthy, he's expected to begin the year in the minors.

ImpactChiasson had no points in three preseason appearances with the Red Wings this year. The 34-year-old is a veteran of 651 career NHL games, but he didn't play at all in 2023-24 after failing to make the Bruins' roster out of training camp. Chiasson did record six goals and nine points across 20 outings with Detroit in 2022-23.

Alex Lyon - Starter for FridayLyon is expected to start in Friday's home preseason contest against Ottawa, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com on Wednesday.

ImpactCam Talbot is slated to serve between the pipes in Thursday's home contest versus Toronto. Lyon had a 21-18-5 record, 3.05 GAA and .904 save percentage in 44 games with Detroit in 2023-24. He'll be competing with Talbot and Ville Husso for starts in 2024-25. With Detroit's crease crowded, it's possible that no member of the trio will get much more than 40 starts over the course of the upcoming campaign.
