Signs AHL deal Ferguson agreed to terms on a one-year, minor-league contract with AHL Iowa on Tuesday after being released from his PTO with Vancouver, Dylan Loucks of The Hockey News reports.

Impact Ferguson's days with Vancouver were numbered as soon as the team brought in veteran Kevin Lankinen. The club already has some young backstops competing for ice time with AHL Abbotsford, so keeping Ferguson would have created an unnecessary logjam. Without an NHL deal, Ferguson figures to spend the entire year in the minors with Iowa.

Gets a chance with Vancouver Ferguson signed a professional tryout agreement with the Canucks on Sunday.

Impact Ferguson will have an opportunity to win a role in the crease, at least in the short term, while Vancouver netminders Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs work their way back to full health. The 25-year-old Ferguson was drafted in the seventh round by Dallas in the 2017 NHL Draft. The British Columbia native played for Minsk Dynamo of the KHL in 2023-24 -- he had a 9-9-0 record with a .904 save percentage and a 2.51 GAA in 23 regular-season contests. Ferguson has appeared in just three NHL games between Vegas and Ottawa throughout his career.

Reassigned to minors Ferguson was sent back to AHL Belleville on Tuesday.

Impact Ferguson's demotion is a good indication that Cam Talbot (lower body) will at least be healthy enough to serve as the backup against the Flyers on Thursday, though Ferguson could still be called up prior to that tilt. During his stint in the NHL, the 24-year-old Ferguson logged two appearances for the Sens in which he posted a 1-1-0 record, 2.52 GAA and .940 save percentage.
