Coach impressed with effort Cowan has impressed Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, during rookie camp, reports the Toronto Sun. Impact Cowan produced 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 regular-season games last season with London of the OHL, and he followed it up with 10 goals and 24 assists in 18 playoff games. And he's already shown he can stand out with two strong rookie games versus the Habs freshmen. Cowan is fast with intense compete, and he doesn't cut corners in his own zone. Still, Treliving is a tough customer and doesn't mince words: "He has produced in junior and the one thing watching the rookie games, this guy works. Having said that, he needs to be detailed... He needs to show us that he doesn't [still have junior habits]." Cowan will compete for a bottom-six role in training camp and could get a nine-game audition with the big club. Or stay, depending on his game. He remains eligible to return to the OHL for 2024-25.
