Starting against Detroit
Sandstrom will guard the home crease in Monday's preseason game against the Red Wings, according to Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
Impact
Sandstrom will likely play out the 2024-25 season with AHL Rochester, so long as Buffalo's netminders remain healthy. The 27-year-old was 1-2-0 with an .823 save percentage and a 3.87 GAA in five regular-season appearances with the Flyers in 2023-24.

Between pipes against Sens
Sandstrom will guard the cage on the road versus Ottawa on Thursday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Impact
Sandstrom is expected to play the full game Thursday while Scott Ratzlaff serves as the No. 2 option. In limited action last year, the 27-year-old Sandstrom went 1-2-0 with a 3.88 GAA and .823 save percentage for the Flyers. Given the Sabres' goaltending depth, Sandstrom will almost certainly start the year in the minors with AHL Rochester, likely splitting the workload with Devon Levi.

Signs two-way pact
Sandstrom agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday.
Impact
Sandstrom has struggled at the NHL level, going 4-18-4 with a 3.66 GAA and .880 save percentage in 30 games while with the Flyers. With Philadelphia moving in a different direction after signing Ivan Fedotov to compete with Samuel Ersson, the 27-year-old Sandstrom joins a Sabres organization that is significantly less certain when it comes to the goaltending position. Sandstrom will almost certainly start the year in the minors but could get called up if he can provide himself with AHL Rochester.

Reassigned to AHL
Sandstrom was sent to AHL Lehigh Valley on Friday, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Impact
The Flyers inked Russian netminder Ivan Fedotov to a contract Friday, and sent Sandstrom to the minors in a corresponding move. Sandstrom was 1-2-0 with a 3.88 GAA and a very weak .823 save percentage in five appearances with the Flyers this season.

Falls to Panthers
Sandstrom allowed three goals on 14 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to Florida.
Impact
It was a tough outing for Sandstrom despite facing only 15 shots, as he allowed a goal in each period en route to the loss. The 27-year-old Sandstrom has struggled since he was recalled in early March to backup Samuel Ersson -- he falls to 1-2-0 with an ugly .823 save percentage and 3.87 GAA. The Flyers will look to bounce back Tuesday in a road matchup with the Rangers.

Guarding goal Sunday
Sandstrom will protect the home crease Sunday against Florida.
Impact
Sandstrom will get the second half of Philadelphia's back-to-back after Samuel Ersson played in Saturday's 3-2 win over Boston. The 27-year-old Sandstrom has permitted 14 goals on 82 shots en route to a 1-1-0 record in four NHL outings this campaign. The Panthers rank 13th in the league this season with 3.21 goals per contest.

Queasy third period leads to loss
Sandstrom made 24 saves in a 6-5 loss to Boston on Saturday.
Impact
The game was tied 2-2 going into the third period, but the floodgates opened for both teams in the final frame. Sandstrom surrendered three even-strength goals in a span of just under three minutes early in the third, and Boston never trailed from that point forward. He has allowed 14 goals in four appearances (two starts). Sandstrom can't be trusted in your net at this point.

Starting in Boston
Sandstrom will guard the road cage Saturday against the Bruins, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Sandstrom has just one start and three appearances while backing up Samuel Ersson this season. He's gone 1-0-0 with an .846 save percentage and 3.22 GAA. The 27-year-old Sandstrom will have a tough assignment Saturday versus a Boston team averaging 3.26 goals per game.

Thrown into fire against Bolts
Sandstrom allowed three goals on 11 shots in "relief" as part of Saturday's 7-0 loss to the Lightning.
Impact
Sandstrom replaced Samuel Ersson after the latter was blitzed with 15 shots and four goals against in the first period. This was only the second top-level performance of the season for Sandstrom, who earned another look after a win over Ottawa on March 2. Sandstrom wasn't able to stop the bleeding versus the Bolts, but he likely gets a free pass given that it was a total team meltdown and the final goal took place with the Flyers shorthanded.

Wins season debut
Sandstrom made 24 saves in a 4-2 win over the Senators on Saturday.
Impact
It was Sandstrom's season debut. Vladimir Tarasenko beat him on a backhand from the right circle on a 2-on-1 rush early in the second. And Thomas Chabot scored on a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle at 18:02 of the third with his team's net empty. Sandstrom hasn't had a great year in the AHL, but he was sharp when he needed to be Saturday. He struggled in the backup role in 2022-23, going 3-12-3 in 18 starts (20 appearances) and delivering a 3.72 GAA and .880 save percentage. Leave Sandstrom on the wire until he proves this year is different.

Expected to start Saturday
Sandstrom will start at home versus Ottawa on Saturday.
Impact
This will be Sandstrom's first NHL start of the 2023-24 campaign. He had a 3-12-3 record, 3.72 GAA and .880 save percentage in 20 outings last season. More recently, the 27-year-old has posted a 3.23 GAA and an .882 save percentage in 20 appearances with AHL Lehigh Valley. The Senators, who rank 11th offensively with 3.29 goals per game, might be a difficult assignment for Sandstrom.

Back in NHL
The Flyers recalled Sandstrom from AHL Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Impact
Philadelphia placed Cal Petersen on waivers Wednesday, necessitating the recall of Sandstrom to back up Samuel Ersson. Sandstrom has been average at the AHL level this season, going 11-6-2 with a 3.23 GAA and an .882 save percentage. The Flyers play back-to-back games Friday in Washington and Saturday at home versus Ottawa, so expect Sandstrom to get one of the starts.

Headed back to minors
Sandstrom was reassigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Dylan H. Robillard of Brotherly Puck reports.
Impact
Sandstrom will return to the minors after failing to get into an NHL game this season. The decision to demote Sandstrom should be an indication that Carter Hart (illness) will at least be healthy enough to serve as the No. 2 option versus Detroit on Saturday.

Summoned Thursday
Sandstrom was called up by Philadelphia on Thursday.
Impact
Sandstrom's promotion was sparked by Carter Hart being unavailable due to an illness. Samuel Ersson is expected to get the start while Sandstrom, who has a 3.32 GAA and an .871 save percentage in six contests with AHL Lehigh Valley, will serve as the backup.

Hits waivers
Sandstrom (upper body) was activated from injured reserve and placed on waivers Sunday.
Impact
Sandstrom was injured during the second game of his AHL conditioning loan against Hartford on Nov. 3. If he clears, he will probably report back to Lehigh Valley. Sandstrom hasn't seen any playing time with the Flyers this season after appearing in 20 contests with the big club during the 2022-23 campaign.

Lands on IR
Sandstrom (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Impact
Prior to moving to injured reserve, Sandstrom was brought up from his AHL conditioning assignment with Lehigh Valley on Saturday. With Carter Hart (middle body) also unavailable, Cal Petersen will be backed up by Samuel Ersson in Saturday's contest against the Kings.
